There wasn't any Sobieski dynasty, that guy was elected to be a king, because he was a good military commander.

HENCE a dynasty being made...Do you think that a dynasty is being made off some "Grow your own dynasty" kit? He was elected as a king and his family became of royal blood....with its successors.

There was no dynasty, he was a elected to be a king but his son wasn’t. There was “noble democracy” system in Poland at that time and every each king was elected by the nobles.

You are thinking of the 1444 Varna Campaign Crusade :)

You mean probably Wladyslaw III, another Polish king who leaded crusade against the Turks. He perished in Varna in 1444, he has only 20 years old at that time.

First of all, why would someone bother go verifying this story?

Because, not everyone posts BS before checking out the facts.

Second of all, I'd be pleasantly surprised if most people knew where Poland is, for Pete's sake, majority don't even know US geography. Sounds harsh but it's our reality!

You are full of yourself, aren't you?

Quinotto: Oh, please, she was just using one of those lame websites (eg: familytree.com or ancestors.com) where they are using famous European names and they make you think you are related to them.

Until you back up your silly arguments with facts, don't bother wasting my time. Hence the word facts, I don't need spin and anger to cloud the issue. Gotta go to work now.

Thus far you haven't managed to do anything more but use pattern replies, quite puerile as facto! I fail to see where on earth am I full of myself when stating the fact that the majority have problems with US geography, less alone the world. My sister is married to a Pole and my niece, in school dealt with teachers that not only had no clue where Poland was (locating it somewhere near Spain), but kept referring to Romania as Armenia. So as far as "backing up silly arguments" I advise you to indicate to us where YOUR S are, I have yet to see them!

My answer was pertaining to the confusion where the poster though Vlad Tepes alone was attributed the fame of wiping out the Ottoman Empire. I cleared out the fact that he was probably thinking of the Varna Crusade(which occurred centuries earlier) which was made up of many Christian nations (mostly Eastern Europeans) and where indeed Tepes played a major role but was not THE ONE.

That is what I found wikipedia:

Shortly after, however, Hungary declared war on the Ottoman Empire. Vlad Dracul was summoned to join the crusade, and as a member of the Order of the Dragon he could not refuse outright, but, not wishing to anger the captors of his younger sons, he sent his eldest son Mircea in his place. The crusade was a failure, and the Christian armies were crushed at the Battle of Varna. Vlad fell further out of favour with Hungary.

I guess more of revised history....It was a battle plan agreed upon by the crusaders where Vlad Tepes was to await for the retreat of the Ottoman army and decimate the rest...the Crusaders did their bid at Varna and upon their retreat the Turkish troops were further destroyed...it's so funny how wikipedia shows such a different version of what I learned from my history books...

Drats. Everyone is taking my jokes seriously today. Tartar source. Say it a few times fast; maybe a New England or New York accent would help.

Moldavia is the former Soviet country (which happens to be Romanian land snatched by the Russians at the beginning of 19th century)

Hey, you got Northern Dobruja as compensation. Guess who got the short end of the deal? ;-)

I stand corrected, you are right as far as the successors. But the fact that no Sobiesky successors followed to the throne doesn't take away the fact that his election as a king changed the dynamics of his family from there on, by becoming part of the European monarchies (may that was short lived).

It is now. I have no problem with that. Nevertheless, my father was born near Tulcea and his ancestors lived there for ages. It doesn't matter. We should be looking forward.

I think everyone got your joke and made some think of a fish'n'chips for lunch. :) So allow me to play on your comedy relief here and tell me if you can do anything with tartar steak ;)

Your the one who came onto this thread and stated Leelee Sobieski went to a genealogy web site and after doing so claimed she was Polish Royalty.
That much is a fact - scroll up and read your own writing.
So you saw this? You read this? maybe you were right by her side when this happened - apparently none of the above. You just decided to pipe off at the mouth making a claim which you can not back up.
Which is BS.
Making up facts or stories and presenting them as truth isn't a characteristic of conservatives.

DARN, I knew it LOL :) Have you ever gone back and visited Tulcea? If you plan to do so, then don't miss the Danube Delta, some of the people living there are really living in the past, by choice I might add. You will enjoy it, I guarantee it.... history, fishing, cooking, traditions, fishing, flora and fauna, fishing, wonderful and kind people, fishing...

P.S. Did I mention fishing? ;) I particularly don't care for fishing but I do remember my trips to the Danube Delta when I was a kid...absolutely charming!

OK, let me start ALL OVER AGAIN and explaing to you as if you were a 10 years old. First of all, do not take it as a personal attack the fact that I doubted LL's story, in case you didn't get it it was meant more as a tribute to King Sobiesky. LL was born here, a loose Liberal with no aim in life...and ANYONE with a last name which is the same as ANY European blue blood, when being researched on those lame websites, comes back as being descendant of such families. What common sense should tell you (and a bit of your own research) is the fact that majority of the immigrants to the US were mostly "common men" who moved to America for freedom from poverty, abuse and greedy "noblemen". What common sense should tell you is that I don't see the sense of anyone actually spending time in verifying if her claims are or not true and again, the Romanov story comes to mind. She was probably raised being told that by her father who actually made the initial claim and, as a Polish man having lived in Poland, do you see ANY chance in hell for such family being allowed to leave a Communist Poland? The ones with any such connections who managed to escape did it at the beginning of the reign of terror, before they were harassed, arrested, imprisoned or even worse, died in Labor Camps. Again, I was appalled at her claim simply because I tend to believe that King Sobiesky has...better descendants than a Liberal nitwit like LL. You advise me to scroll up and do my own reading, something which clearly you have not, otherwise you would have seen my postings 'splaining the same things...over, and over, and over, and over...and over again....So get off the mightier than thou horse, I don't think it's able to carry such a heavy load and act before reacting when answering someone. You seemed like a logical person however I am starting to have my doubts...

Btw great grand father of king Sobieski(Stanislaw Zolkiewski ), from mother's side of the family was famous Polish general (Wielki Hetman Koronny) who conquered and occupied Moscow for two years.

Yes, but my point is that even If that LeeLee girl is really a descendant of the king It only means that she had a famous ancestor, nothing more, only interesting fact, she doesn't belong to any royalty. She would belong to royalty If she was a member of British royal family or even a member of already not "active" royal families - Hohenzollern, Hapsburg etc.

BTW I had never heard about her before I read this thread and I am sure that neither she nor her parents lived in Poland.
