ORIGINAL REPORT

FReepers, sometimes the other side just makes it so easy for us. My original report regarding the Sierra Club Summit is linked above.

After giving a stirring speech on saving the planet, Arianna Huffington walked right past me outside. A friend was able to take this photo of her Chevrolet Suburban waiting for her across the street. She parked across the street rather than being dropped off next to the hyrbrid vehicles that were showcased in front of the Sierra Club Summit. She didn't dare get dropped off in front of her environmentalist pals at the Moscone Center building where she was speaking.

I watched Arianna and her driver get into the vehicle and take off together. No entourage. Just the driver in front and Arianna in the back. I quickly borrowed a camera and took some more pictures from a distance of her in the car, but I don't know if they will be able to show her as recognizable. Those pictures should be in my hands later today or tomorrow. Although I yelled for her to wave to me, she didn't play for the camera.

Way to go, Arianna. Your husband outed himself after the California Senate race. In broad daylight you now outed yourself as an incredible foolish hypocrite. And at the Sierra Club Summit no less. Just FReeping amazing.

(Thanks to blurblogger for sizing and creating the hosting link.)

Oh, I know. The Suburban was going somewhere anyway. Right, Arianna?

First, is your Suburban 2WD or 4WD? Half-ton or 3/4-ton? Same year range as this one? Second, where are you? In CA, where the traffic light is the unofficial tree and the state pastime is gridlock, all that stop-and-go driving kills even half-decent mean mileage.

When gas was at $2.50 the guy next to us spent $75 filling up his Hummer. Ouch. He said he got 10 miles/gallon. Double ouch.

Also, I think it's a USC flag. Anyone know if she is a colege football fan? ; )

"It gets around 8-10mpg in the city" That's baloney, I never get that bad a mileage even when pulling a two ton horse trailer.

I love the internet. Any piece of data you'd ever imagine is available, if you use the right search terms: What's your Sub's Gas Milage?.

The general concensus seems to be: 8-10 in the city, 13-14 overall, 17-18 on the highway, 13-14 when towing.

Happy now?

The car was going her way anyway...a la her answer to Hannity, "the jet was already going there".

It's a 99', 4WD, 3/4 ton with a 5.7 liter V8. It was purchased and driven in California for several years and hasn't improved it's mileage since it was moved to a red state.

Zsa Zsa Huffington just follows the money. You don't think this w***e actually believes any of the stuff she spouts, do you?

Not really. Now I want to know why I'm only getting 15 hwy when everyone else is getting at least 17.

It has 120K on it, time for a tuneup.

Thanks.

Part of your different mileage is that yours is a 3/4 ton. The gearing is different, and the engine fuel injection map and transmission shift points may be different as well. The one pictured there is a 1/2 ton. Also, how much towing of that 2-ton horse trailer do you do on downtown surface streets vis a vis highway towing?

"It's a GMC my guess is around '03..."

Way older than that. GM changed the front end on the trucks in '99 and the SUV's in '00. That beast is probably '98 or older.

Did you hear that Ari was being driven to LAX and she saw a sign that said, 'Airport Left'?

She sighed, then told the driver to take her home.

Do you own that model? Are you certain it is a 1/2 ton?

Your numbers will be different, as pointed out in my previous post, because you have a 3/4-ton. Even with the same motor, you will have different fuel injection maps, different transmission shift points, and on top of that your truck (if sold in CA) has the ridiculously restrictive California emissions package. The numbers IOKKI quoted are likely for the 1/2-ton version. Also, the differentials in your truck have shorther (numerically higher) gears, so your engine will turn faster at highway speeds than the 1/2 ton would (which has a numerically lower-ratio differential), causing you to get worse highway mileage than you might otherwise (time to look into a Gear Vendors overdrive).

My 2001 Pontiac Firebird Formula, with the LS1 v-8, got 22 miles to the gallon. I drove that car HARD, too. I don't think an LS2 Corvette getting 30 mpg is out of the question.

I don't own one, but I am highly knowlegdable in the matter of GM trucks. Those aluminum wheels were only available on the 1/2-ton (which has 6-bolt wheel hubs). The 3/4 tons had steel wheels from the factory, and had 8-bolt hubs.

The trim piece says 1500, mine is a 1/2 ton, not a 3/4.

Ok. Then IOKKI has the right numbers for your vehicle after all. The highway mileage difference may be due to the California emissions package, which the 49-state versions (obviously) don't have, and which probably rob you of at least 10 horsepower. I'm betting you still only get 8-10mpg in the city though, even with the 350 (5.7liter). You might consider trading up to a 3/4-ton, with a diesel, especially if you tow. The 1/2-ton can tow that 2-ton horse trailer, but your rear springs and transmission will not thank you for it (you do tow in 3rd, not overdrive, right?).

I wonder if Sierra Club members are calling HQ in San Francisco --- 415-977-5500 --- to complain about the stunt pulled by Arianna. It is hurting the message. Arianna should be forced to apologize.

Hmmmmmmm, I wonder if any is calling 415-977-5500 to
