Outside of the two members of the "Gang of 14" (Graham and DeWine) and our Committee Chair, we've got a good group of Republican Senators on this committee.
The 'Rats, on the other hand, are really bad. They only need to replace Senator Kohl with Box-O-Rox to make it a certifiable lunatic asylum.

Should we lay down bets on what day Pres. Bush will announce the next Associate Justice, and if that announcement will come during the hearings?I just hope he nominates Janice Rogers Brown. Let's see if the 'Rats on the Committee have the stones to tear her apart.

Wall Street Journal is predicting Roberts
is expected to be confirmed in time for the Supreme Court opening. From Page A1 of September 12, 2005 WSJ under "What's News"...

I've heard that the president has asked been asked not to make the next nomination until this one is done. I think that's good advice. Their real guns will be out for the next one, now that Roberts is seen as replacing a conservative. It's replacing the moderate one with a conservative that will be controversial. Of course, they have forgotten that she was nominated to be a conservative.

Pres. Bush is NOT "replacing" anything, he's FILLING A VACANT SEAT.
Don't fall prey to the Dems' word games.
To: twigs
Sorry for yelling, but I've heard the "replacing" line too much.
To: OXENinFLA
I understasnd that. I'm looking at it through Dem eyes.

It's going to be fascinating to see how the Dems work some Hurricane Histrionics into this one. I'll bet Fat Teddy manages some ridiculously clumsy segue. Then all the networks will run it like he just said something profound.
I hope John Roberts stays calm and collected through the vicious attacks, but it would take a superhuman to do it.
Looking forward to your graphics, ToL! ;-)

If you want to save time, this is the way it will go. Lugar will be boring; Warner will be incoherent; Bayh will be mean and sleazy to appeal to the left; Shumer will have a new haircut, shave and manicure and use big words and grandstand to show he is smarter than anyone in the room; Spector will ask about Scottish - oops - international law; Biden will be his usual verbose self and run out of time, etc. You know, the same-old, same-old.
And Roberts will be unflappable, and will be confirmed.

Excellent analysis....One point NOT really being addressed in the media..Schumer will be the loudest, and most obxious critic of Roberts...and a definite NO vote. Is it therefore possibel for Hilalry to vote for Roberts? She's been mum..but two senators from the same state, same constituency, voting differewntly, especially, if indeed Roe is the "key" issue, can a ultra-liberal female vote to confirm? the money here says no way..

The libs will use their oppportunity to portray Roberts as anti-abortion, therefore anti-woman (sick but true). Since Hitlery needs the female vote, she will have to vote against Roberts. They will also try and portray him as anti-civil rights, so she and Obama will vote against Roberts, since she needs the black vote.
I also think she is grooming Obama for her VP running mate. Why else would Obama be with her in Houston?
Like Rush says, libs are just so predictable.

CourTV has coverage as well. Ken Sterr and Alan Dershowitz are now on speaking. Alan said he would ask Roberts about "Bush v. Gore" and he is badmouthing O'Conner.
