Hunter shooting trial: Prosecutor to call several witnesses

Several people at or near the area where six northern Wisconsin deer hunters were gunned down last fall in a barrage of least 20 shots will testify in the trial of a Minnesota truck driver accused of murder, Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager said.

Lautenschlager would not identify who she will call as witnesses for the prosecution when Chai Soua Vang's murder trial resumes Monday. But she indicated the witnesses would include more than just the two men who survived gunshot wounds from the Nov. 21 shootings at a Sawyer County deer camp, where 15 people had gathered.

"I can't talk about witness priority,'' Lautenschlager said. "The trial is proceeding as we have planned.''

First of all, thanks for plugging Vicki McKenna! I listen to her nearly every day. She'll be going national one day, I'll bet. She never gets ruffled by the libs here and is fast on her feet.

Secondly, the jury pool is made up of people (mainly women) from DANE COUNTY, so yes, there may be someone from Madistan in there, but they're not the majority, by any means. :)

Possibly an expert to identify the gun which fired the fatal bullets, an expert to tie the gun to the shooter, a cop to get in statements made by the shooter; I wouldn't think she would have surprise witnesses at this point.

Maybe all of those. But, I'm betting on the hunters that Vang encountered in the woods, after the shooting was over and Vang told them he was lost and could they help him out.
