" The Dogs Bark and The Caravan Moves On."
When were the gloves ever on!?!?
No. You just repeated yourself. Repetition is not demonstration. It's not proof.
I stated my reasoning: "People have all the tools they need to politically define themselves,"
That is not reasoning. That is just another assertion without anything to back it up. And it is only relevant in a way that disproves your prior assertion.
What if peoples own "political definition" for themselves does not fit the cookie cutter platforms offered by the Republican and democrat party? You seem to think they should just suck up their disagreements and take whatever platforms the parties offer them. That they should tow the party line. That they should not think independently. That they should not be Independents.
You think that they are "indecisive" because they do not decide to register with one of the party offerings. That is a false assumption. If they were indecisive, then they would not have registered. Registered independents are not "indecisive". They have decided to register as independents.
You think that independents are apathetic. That is also blatantly untrue. Apathetic people would not bother to even register, much less take the effort to analyze the various party platforms and decide that none adequately match their own political beliefs, obligating them to register independent.
Earlier in this thread, I gave the example of independents who are at the same time pro-abortion and pro-Second Amendment. I know quite a few. They are all quite actively pro-abortion and quite actively pro-Second Amendment. They disagree with the Republican party on one issue, and the democrat party on the other, but they are far from apathetic.
I do not necessarily agree with all their political beliefs, but at least I am sufficiently rational to recognize and respect the strength of their convictions without simply trying to dismiss them with false blanket statements and insults. In fact, most independents I know are a hell of a lot more politically engaged than the vast majority of apathetic registered republicans and democrats, who don't think too greatly about their political beliefs, and just lazily accept whatever platforms the two major parties offer. If the republican party chooses to dismiss these independent voters the way you so ignorantly and flippantly do, it is to their great peril. The independents I know vote in every single election and intititive. After working the phones before the last elecion, I only wish more registered republicans where I live would bother to do the same.
What about a 40+ year old balding man with a wife, two kids, and masters degrees in applied maths and economics. That's my accountant, and he's a registered independent.
I've got some news for ya Mr. Williams:
A large majority of us have long known that the members of the MSM are a bunch of cynical b****rds!
What was Williams smoking. Cigarettes I hope.
Bush did Cocaine! Bush is a dry drunk! Bush used dirty tricks against McCain in South Carolina! Bush wants to poison us with arsenic in our water! Bush is a drunk driver!
Bush's is anti-medicine (stem cells)! Bush is anti-science (teach alternatives to Evolution)! Bush is giving big tax breaks to the rich! Bush is leading us into a nuclear arms race by killing the ABM Treaty!
Bush's "16 words!" No WMD's in Iraq! Bush didn't Guard the WMD chemicals in Iraq! Bush let the Iraqi's loot their own museums!
Abu Ghraib, Abu Ghraib!
Bush is responsible for Global Warming, hurricane Katrina, and Louisianna's failure to use their buses to evacuate their own people!
Oh, and don't mind our forged Bush National Guard documents, our "leaked" Valerie Plame reporter set-up, our Senate Democrat Intel Committee memo that admitted abusing the Senate for our partisan advantage, our forged "exit polls," our forged French intel documents on Nigeria uranium sales, our lies about Bush crowds "booing" Clinton, etc.
But this is different now; BUSH IS EATING BABIES!
She sounds like she is someone riding the fence...not sure which way to teeter...I don't know who Pillboxgirl is so I can't agree with your assesment of her...is she a 20 year old that hides behind others?..I don't know....
In other words...sitting on the fence...I don't see the "Independents" becoming a major political party in my lifetime...and I'm 41....so as of now..Independents are just spoilers...where were the Independents in the '00 and '04 elections??..voting for Nader???...sheesh...come on..
I guess he's never heard of David Gregory, Maureen Dowd or Helen Thomas...not to mention a few other airhead reporters.
Denial is not truth.

While I have never appreciated issue-oriented Republicans (one should be conservative by nature, not tally the number of happenstance-agreements in choosing a party), to be independent is a rejection of everything else. We conservatives should be loved, and you independents should recognize the superior club that we are.
You think that they are "indecisive" because they do not decide to register with one of the party offerings. That is a false assumption. If they were indecisive, then they would not have registered. Registered independents are not "indecisive". They have decided to register as independents.
They made a wrong decision, harkening back to my assertion of cluelessness, selfishness, and probable drug-addiction.
You think that independents are apathetic. That is also blatantly untrue. Apathetic people would not bother to even register, much less take the effort to analyze the various party platforms and decide that none adequately match their own political beliefs, obligating them to register independent.
They don't all register. They stay home and play video games. Apathetic.
I do not necessarily agree with all their political beliefs, but at least I am sufficiently rational to recognize and respect the strength of their convictions without simply trying to dismiss them with false blanket statements and insults.
I am sufficiently rational to belittle their wrong convictions and dismiss them universally.
In fact, most independents I know are a hell of a lot more politically engaged than the vast majority of apathetic registered republicans and democrats, who don't think too greatly about their political beliefs, and just lazily accept whatever platforms the two major parties offer.
Video games.

We don't need indecisive, apathetic, clueless, selfish drug addicts.
Flatter yourself, but we don't.
Williams seems to have difficulty **naming** a real-world example of Republicans unsheathing our bloody knives.
On the other hand, Southack has no difficulty at all naming examples of Democrats cheating, as opposed to playing by fair Marquess of Queensberry Rules.
Here are a few examples from the top of my head:
1. The Senate Intel Committee memo from Democratic Senator Rockefeller ordering fellow Democrats on that Senate committee to DELAY the approval of one of President Bush's judges until after a particular court case had been ruled upon by the previous court.
2. That same memo exposed the Democrats' plan to abuse the Senate Intel hearings for their own partisan gain.
3. The NARAL ad that attempted to trick the audience into thinking that John Roberts was an abortion clinic bomber.
4. The attempted political exploitation (that backfired) of Senator Wellstone's funeral, attended by every top Democrat.
5. The illegal leaking of Linda Tripp's government personnel file.
6. The forged National Guard documents that were aired by CBS against President Bush.
7. The theft of underprivileged children's monies to fund radical left-wing Air America radio.
8. Massive illegal Chinese Communist Campaign contributions sent to VP Al Gore and President Clinton and deliberately covered up by Jamie Gorelick and her now infamous "Wall."
9. The orchestration of Joe Wilson's bogus Niger trip by Democratic Party operative and CIA WMD "expert" Valerie Plame, set to coincide with forged (by French Intelligence Agents) Niger WMD documents and a media-initiated scam of leaking Plame's name to the Public in a way that might blame top GOP players such as Rove.
10. "Dry drunk" accusations against President Bush by the left-wing news media.
Isn't that racist??? OMG, I cannot believe she said that on national TV.
***
Very bizarre when I heard her say that earlier.
I'm flabbergasted. I'd like to know what the difference is between then and now. A little more vitroil? Less thinly disguised vitriol?
"...may be the end of an unusual four-year period of deference to people in power..."
I'll get the popcorn ready. If they get any more catty than this, it will be a moment to get a blank video ready!
Yes, someone is popping the popcorn. =]
What a freaking lying idiot thing to say! Grr, I am so sick of the media.
marron thanks for your excellent summary.
SW thanks for the ping.
