BATON ROUGE, La.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 2005--The Shaw Group Inc. (NYSE: SGR) announced today that it has been awarded an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to aid in the recovery and rebuilding efforts. Shaw will provide supervision, equipment, materials, labor, logistics, and all means necessary to provide the Corps of Engineers an immediate response for construction contract capability. The contract will provide construction and related services including program planning, scheduling, design, engineering, transportation, construction management, and quality control. Under this contract, Shaw has received its first task of pumping floodwater from the city of New Orleans out and over the levees. Shaw is using temporary pumps and is repairing and restarting the existing pump stations. The $100 million contract has a base period of one-year, with an additional one-year option. Shaw announced earlier today a $100 million ID/IQ contract award by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide support services in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, including housing assistance for displaced residents.

J.M. Bernhard, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Shaw commented, "This significant contract from the Corps, combined with our award from FEMA, enhances our ability to make an immediate and pronounced impact on the restoration efforts in New Orleans, South Louisiana and the Gulf Coast region. With nearly 5,000 of our own employees living and working here in our home state, we have been personally impacted by this devastating storm. We are committed to this region and we are grateful for the opportunity to play a leadership role in the rebuilding of Louisiana and our sister city, New Orleans."

Shaw is currently performing services under existing contracts with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, NASA, the Louisiana National Guard, the U.S. Navy, Jefferson Parish and other government agencies and entities. Shaw is presently providing temporary roofing and repairs under its existing "Blue Roof" contract. The company is providing critical logistical support to the U.S. Postal Service to restore mail service and has been providing critical food water and supplies to hospitals in the area. Shaw has provided emergency communications capabilities to both the city of New Orleans and St. Bernard Parish.

Mr. Bernhard continued, "We have already mobilized 2,000 people and are continuing to dispatch thousands of additional personnel over the next few weeks. We have, and will continue, to emphasize employing persons displaced by the storm. With the FEMA and Corps awards and the recovery work that we are performing under existing contracts, Shaw is providing a broad range of emergency response services. From establishing disaster relief centers, to providing temporary housing, and removing the floodwater from the City of New Orleans, Shaw is providing solutions."

The Shaw Group Inc. is a leading global provider of technology, engineering, procurement, construction, maintenance, fabrication, manufacturing, consulting, remediation, and facilities management services for government and private sector clients in the energy, chemical, environmental, infrastructure and emergency response markets. Headquartered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with over $3 billion in annual revenues, Shaw employs approximately 18,000 people at its offices and operations in North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region.

I'm sure everyone knows whose family owns a major portion of Bechtel....could it be a certain senator from California?

Richard Blum, husband of Sen. Dianne Feinstein of Blum Capital Partners.

Bechtel Group Inc., one of the lead contractors in the reconstruction of Iraq gets $600,000,000.00 and $1.03 billion contracts for Iraq work. Diane Feinstein's husband, Richard Blum owns 24% of the company that got the contract.

Perini Corp, with contracts worth up to $525 million in Iraq and Afghanistan, is owned by a group of investors that includes Richard Blum, husband of Sen. Diane Feinstein, California Democrat and a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

The San Francisco based engineering firm URS Corp. received its second major Army contract since February. All told the company could make $3.7 billion over the next eight years.

URS is owned in part by Richard Blum the husband of California Senator Dianne Feinstein.

Yes, and as I said on another thread:

For the first time, in a long time, I think the Leftists are winning the PR war. Conservatives are discouraged, and the Dems are sneaking stuff past us.

All these arguments are a distraction from what's really going on. The chair of the Louisiana state Dem party (Shaw group) has been awarded a contract to be THE contract manager of all subsequent contracts, and everyone is too busy arguing over a crooked cop on a bridge to see that the taxpayers of the USA are being taken for a ride.

The chair of the Louisiana State Democrats will control the awarding of all FEMA contracts in all three states!

It's big, and they used the Brown distraction and the blame distraction to keep us looking the other way.

No Blum..the poor city of NO is now a floating "crock of s." thanks to you and your kind. Oh..yes, it is only fitting that you increase your wallet on the backs of those you helped to keep poor and devastate.

And they call Republicans capitalists...sheesh.

I surely do hope they realize they are going to be audited like crazy over this job. I expect they are going to be monitored much more closely then they expect.

"Bechtel National Inc., a unit of San Francisco-based Bechtel Corp., has also been selected by FEMA to provide short-term housing for people displaced by the hurricane. Bush named Bechtel's CEO to his Export Council and put the former CEO of Bechtel Energy in charge of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation."

Could be wrong, but I seem to recall that they were also awarded at least one contract in Iraq early on. Of course, not word one about that and there will probably not be anything out there about this as the company is owned by Sen. Feinstein's (D-CA)VERY wealthy husband. Every time the D's bring up Halliburton, the Pubbies should mention this and perhaps Clay Shaw's contract as well. They may be the best company for the work, but, as I understand it, so is Halliburton (think they are in a bit of a 'niche' field).

Feds ought to hire that Kyle auditor from La who was driving everyone nuts with his corruption finds. He was one who was involved everywhere in the state finding corruption.

He found so much I was surprised somebody didn't knock him off. He knows where all the bodies are buried. All of them.

Oh, pardon me :)

Your plea wasn't directed towards me as I thought.

Your plea is to the thousands of rat bastards, thieves and rapists shipped from NOLA to Houston, et al.

Methinks Texas may regret this before long.
