A report from DownEast:

Just hung up with Jack in Davis! (He was already up...)

Davis didn't get any water from the Sound and only damage he knew of was some trees & branches.

He plans to go over on first boat they run and take pictures -- not sure when he'll be able to e-mail them (Power & cable are out in Davis . _________________________________________________________________

Poster is reffering to taking a boat over to the Fish Camp at Great Island Bay on Capelook. About 30 cabins and as many assorted beach buggy vehicles (RV's/Pickups) left on the island.

Report from a friend of mine, Re: Morehead City and Atlantic beach:

Morehead mostly branches off trees, some trees down. Flooding along the waterfront docks and yards waterfront homes.

Atlantic Beach lost the Pier at the Sheraton Hotel. Some neighborhoods on the sound have water in the houses.

Her dad is on his way to Morehead to check things out, will report back what I hear.

Rodanthe webcam, north of Hatteras. Sand on the road no damage visible, power still on.

"The son on L.I. may be in for more probs than bro in VA:

So far, it looks like you are probably right. My son just moved down there from eastern upstate NY. My concern is if anything hits L.I., how the heck does one get out of there?

If any Long Island FReeper has any info to share, I'd appreciate hearing it so I could pass it along to him.

Head west for Queens or Brooklyn is the only suggestion I can offer. While still on the western edge of Long Island either borough is more protected.

This link is periodically updated with current Emerald Isle conditions. Island is now open as of 9:00 AM to residents and property owners with re-entry passes.

Found out from neighbor that our pier is gone and water was up to and probably inside the basement level of the house.

"Posted: September 15 2005 at 9:55am | IP Logged Report Post Quote Blaatzee

Early this morning we heard from a guy who rode out the storm on EI. He said there was minimal structural damage on the beach side but that the beach is GONE. Period. He said that the sound side houses/docks got pounded. He said it got really scary down there around midnight.

Unfortunately it sounds like it's really bad down there. "

Boy, you would never know a hurricane is just a bit south of Va Beach. It's been sunny most of the morning and not much wind.

The Crab Shack was heavily damaged; several of the restaurants on the sound side at Salter Path had extensive damage.

I wonder about Bogue Banks Country Club on the sound side.

Message from Ocracoke:

"September 15, 2005
Just to let everyone know. It's 9:04 and Ocracoke has been without power since 1 a.m. this morning. My laptop only has a few hours left of battery time so making brief visits online. Ophelia is about 30 miles S-SW of Cape Hatteras and moving very erratically E-NE about 6 mph. The northern eyewall continues to remain over the Outer Banks. It's a slow mover and we're just hoping for the best. Spoke with a couple of people living right on the sound and they are experiencing some sound side flooding already. We'll come back with an update later on today when we can give something new. For now it's windy and rainy. Thanks everyone for all your thoughts and prayers"
