It is critical for the Dems and Hillary's chances for the presidency that the American public not be left with the image of failed female leadership in a time of crisis. Pinning this on Bush wasn't working so it is time for the you know what to flow downstream. Notice how often the Democrat Party sells out the loyal African-American.

(Can we swap Cindy Sheehan in Crawford for Cindy Crawford anywhere?)

You smart hombre.
Two things at work. One, over the past two or three days MSM has been broaching the topic of "local" mistakes. The Dem money elite talking points counter attacked by pointing to the mayor. He will lose. He doesn't have the PR resources, Dems will abandon him.
Two, future money. If "Hugs" Blanco looks unclean, fed money into state coffers will be harder to gain.
Tancredo's right. No state or local officials should hold the pursestrings to fed reconstruction money. Nagin is reputedly honest, but certainly other local pols aren't.

Quite intuitive and astute! Regarding the Dims and the MSM, this is exactly what's going on, with the sub-agenda of hiding the abject failure of liberal policy in the real world. Hence the volume of distortion and Gorilla dust from day one. The final degradation and sellout of the blacks by the Leftists/Democrats is instructive (to those who would be paying attention).

I think the heat will be on Blanco & Nagin. That's going to be hard to avoid.
