Russia, U.S. to conduct joint military exercise next year (in Moscow!)

MOSCOW, September 9, (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Land Forces and the U.S. Army will conduct a joint military exercise in the Moscow military district in 2006, a Land Forces spokesman said Friday.

The official said the preparation and active phase of the exercise would be discussed during the September 11-13 visit of a U.S. military delegation headed by Commander of United States Army, Europe (USAREUR) General B.B. Bell to Moscow.

During the visit, General Bell will meet with Commander of the Russian Land Forces Colonel General Alexei Maslov to discuss the exercise and future cooperation between the Russian Land Forces and the USAREUR.

Bell will also visit headquarters of the Moscow and Leningrad military districts and the War History Museum of Armored Vehicles and Equipment in Kubinka near Moscow.

The general's wife will visit a secondary school attended by Russian officers' children and meet with the wives of the officers from the Moscow military district.

The cultural program of the visit includes sightseeing tours of Moscow and St. Petersburg.

expensive doing business with Russia

Russians are great people. I will never forget after 9-11 the flowers piled up by the Embassy wall by ordinary Russians.

Russians are a lot like Americans in some ways. My wife and I have a Russian friend coming to live with us in a few weeks.

Except they have an understanding of suffering we lack. In a lot of ways we are the spoiled brats of the planet. And I will fight to my dying breath to keep it that way. :-}

Well did Kerry say something about us having to pass a "Universal test" before we deployed US troops anywhere?

I also would like to see the US get closer to Russia. Your right, a US-Russian-Indian-Japanese alliance against China is formidable. China would fold under the pressure. That is, as long as the socialist commie-larvae EU doesn't cozy up to the PRC. We'll see.

By the way, China will do anything, I mean anything to get oil. Their demand in the next few years will be out of the this world ludicrous

Naw. EU all gas and no dash. Even if they suddenly found a set of balls New Europe would never go along with old Europe against us. THEY remember Ronald Maxmus Reagan and his victory over Communism even if OLD Europe does not.

I have been thinking for a some time the US now has far more need to concern itself with the EU and China than with Russia.

Old habits die hard but the Russians have their own Muslim problem. We need to quit pandering to the PC crowd and the old cold warriors and deal. Russian can be our ally or our adversary here. I would rather they be a benevolent neutral or our friend rather then an active foe. We have enough people to fight right now.

Russia has no fear of EU lifting Chinese arms embargo - 08/ 09/ 2005

"I think the EU embargo is bound to be lifted sooner or later, but we do not fear it, ...Russia knows China's weapons market, because it has been working on it for a long time and does not fear competition. Moreover, Russia is ready for cooperation with some countries that are prepared to supply China with the weapons it needs," Ivanov said.

He added that Russia would deliver a scheduled batch of Il-76 military transport aircraft and Il-78 air tankers.

It was more than anti terror training. They helped us in Afghanistan with supplies and tank crews to support the Northern Alliance. I also have more than a strong suspicion there is more cooperation than we are hearing in the WOT.

Exactly right -

There are many Russian Army officers attending the Command and Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, and I am certain they are in many other military schools.
