NFL kickoff show falls short at Gillette (by Globe's Steve Moron)
Bos. Glob (NY Times Jr.) ^ | 09/07/05 | Steve Morse

FOXBOROUGH -- Green Day played a long set when it headlined in front of 40,000-plus fans at Gillette Stadium last Saturday. Last night, the group did just one song and it was a safe choice: ''Boulevard of Broken Dreams," though it wasn't perhaps the most cheerful track to spice a pre-game show featuring the unveiling of another championship banner for the New England Patriots.

(snip)Maroon 5 came off vapidly (doing just one song, ''Harder to Breathe"), while West did one tune, ''Heard 'Em Say." Yet it was disconcerting to hear his name booed loudly by Patriots fans who evidently didn't appreciate his nationally televised comment the other night on a Hurricane Katrina benefit that President Bush ''doesn't care about black people." The boos were thunderous and lasted for much of his number.

For those who wanted to see article (by lib music critic) detailing boos for Kanye. It's the Glob, what do you expect.

>>Yet it was disconcerting

Not to me! (And to think I used to like all the articles this guy wrote about the Kinks, etc.)

YEA! They booed him! I'm sorry I missed it, as well as Ozzy Osbourne's performance. It was just "Crazy Train," though. He should have done something else. All he's known for is that song, bats and his stupid TV show.

I did watch the pre-show but I took a break when West came on...mainly because I think his music is terrible....so I didn't hear any boos, but am glad to know it happened.

What struck me was how family-friendly the pre-show was...no bumping and grinding on stage, everything sexual, etc.....those that had kids watching the show were pleased. Thanks NFL......

Apparently Ozzy was a surprise performance and the reason he did Crazy Train is because that is what the Pats normally enter the field to.

What did he expect Green Day to play? Boulevard is their current single. At least it seemed like they were actually singing instead of lip synching. I thought they were awesome.

"Patriots fans who evidently didn't appreciate his nationally televised comment the other night on a Hurricane Katrina benefit that President Bush ''doesn't care about black people." The boos were thunderous and lasted for much of his number."

Yet, the liberals still won't admit that their views are in the minority and are abhorrent to most of the country.

And from the GOOD paper in town, the Herald:

"" Outspoken rapmeister Kanye West, who __got a good, loud, long booing at Gillette Stadium__, Maroon 5 and Left Coast hostess Eva Longoria appeared on the Jumbotrons from L.A. while Green Day held court in the Gillette Stadium end zone"

I would've thought Green Day would've played their Bush-bashing "American Idiot".

By the way I sort mail and last night "returned to sender"
a letter from someone to the "Green Day Idiot Club" (their fan club, apparently) because there was no postage on it.
Gotta use a stamp, there, Einstein! :)

Maybe the NFL needs to purge the liberals in its promotions department.

I'd echo your thoughts with regard to last night's beer commercials from Budweiser. Last year's Coors Light commercials really threw a wrench into watching the games with my kids. I found the Bud commercials to be much more tasteful. (no pun intended)

I didn't watch any of the game.

Let's see the NFL's sponsers sell their wares to the lefties who hate them.
