New Orleans residents who elect to stay and protect their property are having their guns confiscated by the police and military. What happened to the "right to bear arms". As long as these folks are law abiding citizens, the disaster should not have changed anything... See the link below:

"Police and soldiers seized numerous guns for fear of confrontations with jittery residents who have armed themselves against looters."
"No one will be able to be armed. We are going to take all the weapons,"
Call the ACLU....uh, nevermind. Call the NRA.
Bullshit. I wouldn't give up mine. Then again I would not be there.
If I was there I would not be waving the Guard over to my property, just shout I am okay and let them move on.

Let Freedom Ring,
If there's Martial Law all rights go out the window don't they?
Absolutly. It is wrong to take weapons from law abiding citizens.
If they can't drive them out with threats they will make them leave by removing their weapons and hence, the only means of maintaining security.
Why does the AP care - they have tried to push for outlawing guns for years and years.
"The object is that every man be armed" Patrick Henry
Will this take precedence and will this be coming to a city near you soon??
I'm on the fence in this situation. On the one hand, I can see the homeowners' side, in that there are entirely too many idiots on the streets there who think that everything within their sight is theirs for the taking. On the other hand, I can understand the military position that, in the interest of regaining control of the city in the shortest time possible while minimizing damage and loss of life, they would want to restrict all weapons for the duration. NO is already a moderately restrictive community as far as firearms are concerned. If the military designates a boundary perimeter and declares everything inside it to be a no private weapons zone, I don't have a problem with that. They might allow homeowners to keep them within a house, just not out on the street, but no weapons of any kind within the downtown area. As a homeowner, I would want a guarantee from the military that my property would be protected if they wanted me to surrender firearms, and I would want a receipt and guarantee that I could reclaim them.
Call the NRA? Are you kidding me? They don't see the need for any hunting in NOLA.
This shows the folly of expecting the GOP to do ANYTHING regarding our 2nd and 4th Amendment rights. They won't, 'cause George Bush don't CARE nuthin' 'bout law abidin' citizens with guns.
Well, that would depend on the source of "rights". If they emanate from "Nature's God" then governments would only be "instituted among men" to protect and not infringe upon or expunge those rights. It seems, though, that such a view is anachronistic, having ended around 1803, or perhaps 1789.
...from my cold, dead hands.
That's all it takes for you to surrender your constitutional rights?! The government has to promise to take care of your property for you?!
You are on the wrong forum.
Under current practice I believe Martial Law invalidates Constitutional rights. That's why it's such a big deal. What does MvM have to do with this?
Unbelievable. There's going door to door, confiscating all the firearms.
As far as I'm concerned, that makes them COMPLETELY LIABLE for ANY AND ALL DAMAGE subsequently done to peaceable citizens by thugs, including liability for lives.
And they do NOT have the wherewithall to protect citizens.
It might have something to do with marshal law or being declare an emergency area.
As a result, the fox reserves to himself the right to disarm the hens at his sole discretion. Therefore, no rights pertain, QED.
