Wife Says Criticism of Bush 'Disgusting'
AP ^ | September 8, 2005

Laura Bush described as "disgusting" comments by rapper Kanye West and Democratic chairman Howard Dean blaming her husband for the disproportionate number of black hurricane victims.

"I think all of those remarks are disgusting, to be perfectly frank, because of course President Bush cares about everyone in our country," the first lady said Thursday in an interview with American Urban Radio Networks.

"And I know that. I mean, I'm the person who lives with him," she said. "I know what he's like and I know what he thinks and I know how he cares about people."

The president has faced sharp criticism over federal relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina victims, who are disproportionally black and poor.

On a nationally televised telethon Friday, broadcast live on NBC, West departed from the script to declare " George Bush doesn't care about black people."

Earlier this week, Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, told the National Baptist Convention of America, a black religious group, that race played a role in the hurricane casualty numbers.

Mrs. Bush said it was clear that poor people were more vulnerable when the hurricane hit.

"They lived in poorer neighborhoods. Their neighborhoods were the ones that were more likely to flood, as we saw in New Orleans. Their housing was more vulnerable," she said.

"And that's what we saw, and that's what we want to address in our country."

I feel sorry for people who sit around hoping the president cares about them.

They accuse Bush of not caring about them, but these are the very people who've been saying for nearly five years that Bush isn't their president! Who's disowning whom?

I had lunch with GW Bush in Midland Texas in 1983 or 4. well not exactly lunch, he was at the next table. GWB lived a very middle class life during the 70's & early 80's when he was running his small oil company. He had about 14 employees.

What a crock by these Bush haters.

It's nice to hear Laura Bush use the word "disgusting". She usually uses terms like "disappointing" or something like that.

I like the strong language from her. It packs a greater punch.

It would seem reasonable, would it not, to throw a few votes to Bush and the Republicans? They remind me of spoiled children in a class who "act out" in order to gather the attention of the teacher, then feign indignation when they are marked down.

Finally! Someone calls black racist Kanye West precisely what he is: disgusting!

Thanks, Laura! You rock!

First Lady calls 'em as she see's 'em.

As we all know, she's no political hack and is one of the most gracious and honest people you could ever meet.

These are strong words from her. Hopefully, a few will pay heed to them.

I have no doubt of the president's deep felt caring, as well as his sincere sense of responsibility and duty to the nation. I know it weighs very heavily upon him.

I think it's a 'disgusting' lack of respect that the AP headline refers to Mrs. Bush as 'wife' instead of First Lady.

She's definitely more of lady than I would be.

I think it shows how much class that the President and First Lady have, not to stoop to the same level as their rabid critics. In public, anyway.

"The president has faced sharp criticism" from hysterical Leftist political bigots and "professional journalists" who still, 10 days later, show an almost complete lack of understanding on either how the Disaster Response system works or the legal checks on Presidential powers. However as additional reports in today's Washington Post and on CNN.com are showing. Even the Dinosaur media is starting to catch up to the true facts of this story. AP has, however, still clung to the Moveon.org directed propaganda line that it is "All Bush's fault" Critics charge that AP is slow to actually report NEWS because their primary Journalist for Washington Political News, Jennifer Loven, is married to a Democrat activist and DNC member. Despite the clear conflict of interest neither Ms Loven, nor the proprietors of AP, have responded to questions on the topic.

Down from "scathing criticism" last week.

Honestly, whatever the adjective, it's enough to make me stop reading the article.
