WASHINGTON Raising new concerns about the use of weapons of mass destruction by terrorists, al-Qaida is planning spectacular attacks next month against the U.S., Russia and Europe in what it is calling the "Great Ramadan Offensive."
The offensive, designed to overshadow the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on New York and the Pentagon, was first referenced in a May 30 letter written by al-Qaida's Iraq commander Abu Musab Zarqawi to Osama bin Laden. It is the subject of a report written by terrorism expert Yossef Bodansky, the former director of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, to government officials.
Ramadan, the holiest period in the Muslim calendar, begins Oct. 4 this year and lasts a month.

Stratfor says its the perfect time to hit us.
They tend to be right about a lot of things, (and wrong about lots of others).

Yes, but I have been hearing about this from other sources, basically given the elections in October in Iraq and everything else this would be the perfect time for these kind of attacks as a show of force to Sunnis not to vote.

More like the "newspapers" that you see at the grocery check-out, IMO.

Ping - FWIW ...
My opinion is that it is highly likely that Al Qaida is planning an attack on the US and her allies. My opinion is that Al Qaida would like this attack to be "spectacular." My opinion is that you could, at any point, say that Al Qaida is planning a spectacular attack against the US and her allies and you would always be correct.
That doesn't necessarily mean it will happen.

If Al Qaeda blew up a mailbox with a firecracker in the USA tomorrow, the DEMS would be up in arms pointing fingers at BUSH for not spending enough on Homeland Security, provoking the attack w/ Iraq, blah, blah, blah.
Our biggest liability is Dem whining and finger pointing, and I think Al Qaeda knows this too. I'm expecting something very soon.
