The Fox News Channel's Major Garrett made another appearance on the program this evening, following up on his blockbuster story yesterday. Among other things, Garrett got confirmation --on camera-- of the Louisian State department of Homeland Security's blocking of the delivery of relief supplies to the Superdome and the Convention Center. In addition, Garrett received confirmation from senior Salvation Army officials in Washington, D.C. that the Salvation Army's efforts at supplying the evacuees were also repeatedly blocked. Radioblogger will have the transcript up later, but the key takeaway was when I asked Garrett if characterizing Louisian's preparation for the storm as "abysmal" was accurate and he confirmed that indeed it was. Read the whole thing.
I also asked Garrett why no other network is on this story. He can't offer an answer for that, event hough he points out that this isn't a hard story to get, and Fox News needn't be credited. All CNN has to do (or MSNBC or CBS) is call the Red Cross and get a camera over there.
I don't know what happened to Greg Kelly; haven't seen him in a while.
FNC has been fantastic on documenting and researching.
I am encouraging people to call their Senators tomorrow and tell them what FNC has discovered. And encourage them to gather all the data they can and hold a press conference and invite the press.
It's long past time to play offense instead of defense.
Was President Bush Forced to Use the Insurrection Act?
When President Bush visited the area Friday after the hurricane, Mayor Nagin told him and Governor Blanco that they needed to get the authority thing straightened out about who was running the show. (Bush is legally bound not to enter a State with our armed forces if not requested by the Governor, and Governor Blanco was still in charge of her National Guard). According to Mayor of New Orleans,Nagin, Bush gave Blanco two options on the controlling authority issue and she said she needed 24 hours to think it over. Nagin switched to Bush's side then, as he felt delaying the decision would cost more lives.
I found this post the other day interesting ...I think it may have come down to Bush gave Blanco one of the two options/ultimate either Blanco got it together or Bush would take control of the state via the Insurrection Act
bump for truth
I'm sick of the Repubs all saying "We all agree that the Feds/Fema was slow.......". Why are they repeating this when, given the timeline, the time it takes to organize troops, etc. etc., it's proving NOT to be true?
____________________________________________________________
I am sick of this too...whoever is keeping a list of repubs who are bashing Bush over the slow response (a lie) add Laura Ingraham and Bill Kristol to that list.
I don't know Miz. It seems to me that the administration, at the VERY least through the lackluster Scott McClellan, could mount a better defense.
Freepers always defend the administration better than it does itself.
I'm calling my Senators tomorrow and telling them a few things FNC has found out and about the fact that the Bush administration paid a little more attention to the levee system in terms of money and studies and fixing than the Clinton administration did. Rush said today that LA gets more money for Army Corp of Engineer projects than any other state in the nation, including California which has a population 9 times the state of Louisiana.
Also, Hurricane Floyd (during Clinton's term) was a big hurricane but nothing like Katrina. And Jesse Jackson was on CNN 3 weeks after the storm criticizing the FEMA director (Witt) and said there were still homeless people. Witt was heavily criticized for his slow response to that storm and like I mentioned, it was nothing like the devastation of this one.
Anyway, I'm babbling. I'm so ticked off.
Every state will now be required to sign a Blanco clause to prevent this type of Governor INCOMPETENCE in the future.
The radio had a story of how LA is SUCKING ALL THE RESOURCES to the detriment of AL and Miss.
There should be a MASSIVE fraud probe of LA.
Those Levy Boards should be the FIRST to be abolished.
Thank you. I'm glad it's not just me. When they start their sentences with "We all agree....", I want to slap them.
WE DON'T ALL AGREE! Why is it that we have more facts than THEY DO??
Oh...Newt. Watched him suck up to BOR the other day and had to turn it off. Actually, haven't seen one Pubbie that HAS defended the Pres. 100%.
Name one that hasn't!
(note to self)
Andy, do you have any idea exactly how this decision was made? Do the Major Generals take orders from the governor in times of emergency?
I seem to remember rumblings of blaming Bush before Tuesday at noon, when the flooding was really being felt...
How long after that, when the reporters were out on the freeway crying about no water, food?
All I can say is November 2006 will be a sad time for Democrats across the country. All the Republican support groups will have to do for campaigning will be commericals like this...
Fade from black to Kanyae West...
"Bush hates black people."
Fade to Blanco...
"The Federal Response has been unacceptable."
Fade to Nagin...
"This is some bullsh!t, where are the busses?!"
Fade to busses...
Freeze shot...
Typical Republican/Conservative speaker voice:
"Do you want these ideas running your country? Give the majority your vote this November."
But those will never fly. Can't make gain out of the people in New Orleans. Hopefully some of them will speak out themselves...
Greg Kelly is being wasted by covering the White House.
He should be a roving reporter like Harrigan...those two were great, as was Rick Leventhal, in Iraq, right when we first went in...
You remember correctly. BEFORE the waters rose, the Dem PTB's circled the wagons and made sure everyone had the same mantra.
Have you see this one?
Wow! It is beginning to look that way .. isn't it. I'm serious when I say that I would be shocked if this were true .. I can't believe people would play with the lives of thousands of people to avenge lost elections .. MY GOD .. that's so evil .. I'm sick at the thought.
The "shituation" (made that up today, use it often and well) in NO has made me realize, over the past few days, just how similar the Big Easy and the Motor City are.
The blood of the people at that Convention Center is on the hands of that Governor. She's a control freak, but she won't be able to control what's going to come her way when the truth comes out. You think you saw her cry? Just wait.
It is looking more and more like the Dems deliberately sacrificed NO and hordes of it's citizens for political reasons. Maybe we need to get some Navy Seals out there to see if those holes in the levee were the result of natural forces.
According to Joe Scarborough, on Hairball...Haley Barbour, and the Governor of Alabama, have done LOWSY jobs, dealing with this hurricane...
He said that only Jeb Bush knows how to deal with it...but I dare say, that if he worked AGAINST, The Red Cross, and FEMA, he wouldn't have been very successful, either.
