All Things Considered, September 8, 2005 · Americans are highly critical of President Bush's handling of Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, according to a new poll by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press.
And for the first time since the Sept. 11 attacks, the public thinks the president should focus more on domestic policy than on the war on terrorism.
Robert Siegel discusses the poll results with the Pew Center's Andew Kohut.
The poll shows that 67 percent of Americans say Mr. Bush could have done more in handling relief efforts, while 28 percent say he did all he could.
The federal government's response to Katrina was rated only fair or poor by 58 percent of poll participants, while 51 percent said the same for the response of state and local governments.
The poll highlights racial divisions over the government's response to the hurricane. Some 66 percent of African Americans said the government's response would have been faster had most of the victims been white. But 77 percent of whites said the government's response would have been no different.
The telephone poll was conducted Sept. 6-7 among 1,000 Americans. This poll included an oversampling of African Americans to ensure there were enough interviews for reporting results in that demographic group, the center said.
Yes, Bush could have done more. No, that doesn't necessarily mean he should have. Did it occur to these people that "the more, the better" is not the best motto for every level of government?
NPR, your tax dollars at work, destroying America.
Whenever these weasels call I ask how long the survey is. They usually say something like 15 minutes and it ends up being 20-35 minutes, so I have since told them I don't have that kind of time. I don't know many hard-working conservatives that do.
Stop public funding of NPR and PBS now!!!!!
Trying out my sporty new tagline...
Exactly,That is what we are witnessing as every day passes.
I was reading an article on another website earlier today and the author put it this way;
"Liberals consume themselves with irrational hatred worse than cancer and fiercer than fire."
Great, so the MSM continues to tell itself lies and then to believe the lies. Nothing new, just another polatorial in support of the Great Liberal Circle Jerk.
Hard to believe that NPR admitted that their own poll was phony.
It has all the credibility of an internet poll. Weird.
Same for PEE-You Research.
And it's all because conservatives stand in the way of the Democrats' agenda of destroying the traditional family unit and bringing Euro-style secular socialism to America. The world's a funny place sometimes.
This is depressing. It shows the media that their efforts are working. Chrissy Matthews will be gleeful.
How much are they paying the White House PR staffers. I hope they are volunteers because they are doing a crappy job.
Ahh..nothing like a good push poll by a left-wing funded group for a left-wing taxpayer-funded network to get the results that the Left wants because the real polls don't validate their psychotic visions.
Where did they take this poll? At the Superdome? At the hotel in Las Vegas where the cops are vacationing?
Oh please. Why do they get a nickle of taxpayer money ?
I don't suppose they asked the obvious follow-up question: "What should he have done that he didn't do?"
This poll included an oversampling of African Americans to ensure there were enough interviews for reporting results in that demographic group, we got the results we wanted the center said.
America accomplishes so much.Imagine how much more could be accomplished were it not for the Left.
Heck, they wouldn't even have to help, just stay out of the way.
