This AP photo shows scores of New Orleans school buses sitting in flood waters after Hurricane Katrina - sitting where they sat instead of being used to evacuate thousands of poor people before Katrina hit.

How about the little rural bus driver, north of New Orleans, saw the storm coming, went to where his bus was parked, filled it with fourty folks who wanted out, and got them to Houston before the storm came ashore...?? It is called using your head, survival, whatever!! This actually happened and he was interviewed by Fox at the Astrodome.

That is a crime!
But why couldn't they have sent in buses from all the surrounding cities before 4 days had passed without food and water, and shoes in 98% weather?
I don't know who to blame , probably the governor, but WHAT were they NOT thinking?

Look at all the insurance money that those buses will bring in.

That is probably it, or could it be that he is the one who is predudiced?

Unfortunately, the anti-Bush vitriol is influencing the thinking of a number of folks, esp. if they were anti-Bush to begin with.

I heard a local (Seattle) talk show guy say that in every great tragedy, there are two images. One describes the hopelessness and the other the optimism. For example- WWII was the Arizona sinking at Pearl and then the flag over Iwo Jiima.
I suggest the bus photos are the photo of hopelessness in Katrina's case.

As mayor, Nagin could have commandeered
every bus, train & plane to get the
people out of town by Saturday.

The point too is that the people ought to have been evacuated BEFORE the storm hit on Monday. The floods didn't arrive until Tuesday.
