In another development here in Texas, the Mexican army is crossing the border to bring help to New Orleans and its stranded citizens. This is the first time Mexican military troops have crossed into Texas since 1846, during the war between the United States and Mexico that resulted in Mexico losing the vast area now known as the American southwest. The Mexican soldiers will not be armed and the 35 trucks in the convoy will be loaded with blankets, water, food and mobile kitchens.
Mexican President Vicente Fox brushed aside complaints from some opponents who said he should have sought Congressional approval for the operation, saying that no such approval is needed for a humanitarian mission.
Among the 190 some participants in the convoy are doctors, nurses and engineers. The government of Mexico is also sending a navy ship with rescue vehicles and helicopters from the port of Tampico to the devastated coast of Mississippi.

and how many will stay here once they are in? i dont think the USA needs help from Mexico, but then again, i guess its less of our tax dollars going to something that isnt in the constitution
I suspect that if they can't find something for them to do, they can send them back.
But I would give them a chance to help. It is a very big disaster and and it is a "mitzfah" (good deed) to allow someone who wants to help the chace to do it.
The Mexicans are bringing portable water treatement plants.
Just what I was thinking. If they go back.
I heard on the radio they're supposed to be "unarmed" but, I have to say, I don't believe a single word of that claim.
Not a good idea.
"and how many will stay here once they are in?"
They ought to just round up a bunch that are already here and get THEM to help.
Brilliant, instead of using the debit cards to calm the refugees, lets make them wait a couple of weeks till the hunger really builds and then turn them loose to buy weapons and steal the alcohol and tobacco instead of just letting them buy it.
If we just gave the debit cards to all commers, there would be fraud, but it would be cheaper than the results of making them wait 2 weeks.
Even the law abiding can get rebellious after 3 weeks of near captivity.

Donations of men or materiel.... should be accepted graciously in the spirit of the offer.
Any good help should be, and is, appreciated.
Thanks Mister Fox.
" Maybe so but watch'em stock-up on the way out ...."
What makes you think they are going to leave?
"35 trucks in the convoy will be loaded with blankets, water, food and mobile kitchens."
Cool taco wagons.
Four years ago I got slammed here for seriously stating that the only way to resolve the illegal immigrant problem would be to annex Mexico as our 51st state.
Now, I have to think that we must annex them before events annex us.
Well, Mexico is 'integrating' with the US. Fox and his ministers have said so.
Mexico considers the US the golden goose. Of course they want the remittances to keep flowing. But with friends like that, who needs enemies?
After they succeed in registering for the debit cards, evacuees will have to wait for another week or two for the cards to be delivered. The cards, which will be worth around two thousand dollars each, are issued one to a household and cannot be used for purchases of alcohol or tobacco.
"are issued one to a household"--- Wrong, debit cards will be issued to all adult evacuees.
"are issued one to a household"--- Yeah right. I wanna see which Circle K or 7-11 will take them for any product, especially alcohols and tobacco. After issuance, what is purchased with the use of the debit card cannot be traced.
Anyone in FR wanna take bets on the above?? AUP
