FNC's Major Garrett: Red Cross Blocked by Order of the Louisiana State Government

The Red Cross Blocked

The Fox News Channel's Major Garrett was just on my show extending the story he had just reported on Brit Hume's show: The Red Cross is confirming to Garrett that it had prepositioned water, food, blankets and hygiene products for delivery to the Superdome and the Convention Center in the immediate aftermath of the hurricane, but were blocked from delivering those supplies by orders of the Louisiana state government, which did not want to attract people to the Superdome and/or Convention Center. Garrett has no paper trail yet, but will follow up on his verbal confirmation from sources at the highest levels of the Red Cross.

The transcript of the interview will be available at Radioblogger later this afternoon.

And here is a very interesting article from Septmber of 2004:

Debate continues over Superdome as potential hurricane shelter

Seems that the debate over using the Superdome goes back almost a year, and that no one in New Orleans thought it would be a great place in a Cat 4 or 5 hurricane.

Key graphs:

"If we were to lose power, if we were to lose plumbing facilities, if a storm were to hit and create flooding in the area; the Superdome would not be a desirable place to be," he said.

The American Red Cross admits it would not stay in town for a severe hurricane. Workers would offer supplies and training to the Dome but would then leave to ensure aid for the hurricane's aftermath.

Kay Wilkins, spokesperson for the American Red Cross, said, "While we're saying we;re going to move our volunteers and staff out of the risk area into areas where its safer for them to be it doesn't mean we're not going to be here ahead of time for others."

Mayor Nagin said the city has more than 80,000 people without transportation access, and when the next hurricane evacuation there will be thousands of people who will not, or cannot, leave, highlighting the city's urgency of finding the most suitable place for shelter.

Here's another link, it relates to National Guard, active-duty military, and who controls which troops.

I understand exactly who controls the guard. I'm trying to wade through all the other stuff to understand the authority of FEMA.

I keep hearing about those "900 FBI files". Pardon my ignorance, but what's the significance? I mean, are we to believe that 900 Republicans have felonious pasts, and that their crimes are both secret and heinous?

Do we care if Bill Frist had a parking ticket in 1979? And if he did, why would the FBI have a file on it? Or are all the Pubbies (and any of their allies) actually convicted criminals, and only the FBI and Hillary know?

Sorry, I just don't get it. No disrespect meant to you, I just see this posted a lot. Regards, HW

I obviously cannot answer that question, because if I could, it would mean that the contents of the files had become public knowledge, and therefore they would be of no further use as blackmail instruments.

All of the evidence is circumstantial, yes. But, that does not dismiss it. Circumstantial evidence is sufficient to get convictions in court.

Here's one troubling piece of circumstantial evidence: the "impeachment interruptus" of the sinkmaster. The Republicans CHOSE to let him walk. They didn't HAVE to let him walk. They had all the votes they needed to convict him, but, at the last minute they CHOSE to throw away those votes. There were some who were livid at what transpired, but, not enough of them to make a difference.

I don't claim that "all the pubbies" are dirty; only that ENOUGH of them have skeletons in their closets that they are NOT willing to allow to become public knowledge.

Politics, as practiced these days, is like making sausage. Not a lot of politicians will get very far in the system by being nice guys. The main difference between "them" and "us" is that THEY are willing to take off the gloves and hit below the belt. "We" on the other hand seem unwilling to "play dirty" when defending ourselves. The net result is an incremental ratcheting to the left. One side is always going push, push, push, and the other is reluctantly trying to put up a partial, polite defense.

No one EVER wins a war by fighting a defensive posture.

So, when I look at the way the Clintons have become "teflon" after Craig Livingston obtained those files for Hillary, it seems obvious that there's a causal link. She certainly wanted them, badly. And common sense tells us there's a REASON she wanted them.

I'm really glad you said that Tom Thumb- the solution to this is not a military-run dictatorship.

Thanks. What scares me more than what I see going on, is seeing people advocating it.

Once "we the people" willingly endorse a police state, we'll "get the government we deserve."

"Hard for the MSM to ignore the Red Cross."

They'd ignore Christ on the cross unless they could blame that on Bush!

The Red Cross story is still on Drudge, just not on the front page.

http://www.drudgereportarchives.com/dsp/search.htm?searchFor=red+cross

That's not Drudge's site. It's just something some guy put online to archive what WAS on Drudge.

BTW, I just saw some Red Cross guy on Fox News. Maybe this has already been covered later in this thread, or in another thread (I'm just catching up now), but it appears that the Red Cross has swallowed the Koolade. They are now saying they are in complete agreement with the plan to starve 'em all out. NO mention of their PREVIOUS position of TRYING to get in there. They are now singing on the same page as Her Governorship.

Why would an official Red Cross site engage in finger pointing?

The truth will come out with time.

They drank the koolade. See my post immediately above this one. They are now 100% on-board with the program.

An American Red Cross representative tells Fox News that the Louisiana State Homeland Security Department refused the relief organization permission to take food and water to the Superdome because they did not want to "encourage people to go there."

The Red Cross has suddenly changed their tune. They are now completely endorsing the plan to starve them out, and acting like it's the only sane approach.

Someone got to 'em.

"The looters and thugs of the world WILL crawl from the cracks of society and will prey on you and your neighbors. "

Not everyone is willing to abandon their homes to the vermin.

Some people choose to take a stand, and DEFEND that which they have worked their lives to create.

Some people are unwilling to give up all their property, possessions, family heirlooms, pets, and so forth.

The almighty state should NOT have the power to march in and force them to become refugees. At least not in THIS country, "the land of the free, home of the brave."

That's odd, because I got to it through the search engine on Drudge's home page. Are you asserting that someone unconnected to drudge has put an archive link on drudge's home page?

Is it reasonable to believe that drudge could add stuff to the home page indefinitely without archiving it?

The LDS church had sent a fleet of freight and tanker trucks down there as well, and the vehicles were stopped and not allowed to go in. The church does a lot of partnership work with the Red Cross, so the events are probably related.

FEMA was on scene from day one.

About an hour ago, Fox did a phone interview with a doctor in NO who was working at a hospital throughout the hurricane. He said they had ordered delivery of fuel for their generators -- but it never arrived, because FEMA confiscated it.

He was furious.

I missed part of the interview, but it sounded like they also confiscated helicopters that the hospital had hired to evacuate the patients and staff.

The result was hundreds of patients stuck there for days, in the dark.

Blanco is retarded and evereone in America will probably know the truth. However, in relation to politics, the left will get elected. The American consumer will still remember the pain at the pump and the open border issue.

Buh-bye, Blanco!

She should be prosecuted. Seriously. You don't leave people without food and water when you can help them.

There are reports from Shep Smith that they actually positioned troops on the bridge to prevent people from leaving the convention center. That's a very ugly story that will unfold very soon.

I hope you're not betting good money on that outcome.

The Red Cross has reversed themselves, and is now 100% endorsing the "starve 'em out" doctirne.

The left is circling the wagons, and getting their story straight.

Marty Evans, the president of the Red Cross, told the exact same thing to Larry King on his Friday show....Thanks for posting this. I saw the Fox story and was skeptical, since no source was cited either for the Red Cross or the State. Looks like the story is spot-on true. (Paging Nancy Pelosi!)

It's a new day, with a new reality. Thank you, George Orwell.

The Red Cross is now singing off the same page as the Governor. They are completely endorsing the plan to starve them out, and acting as if it's the ONLY rational approach, and underscoring THEIR decision to refuse to enter NO and feed the victims.

I feel like I'm "back in the USSR".
