My point was to ask if this was a correction to the earlier story about FEMA denying access? You're the one who went off on whether or not FEMA had authority in LA.

My point was that it couldn't have been FEMA.

I think it was Dave Barry who asked whether two dogs are stupider than one dog.

We might ask who is better informed, a person trapped at the bottom of a mine shaft, or one who watches TV news.

Have you noticed that Drudge dropped the link to this major story?

Yes, I sure noticed. What the heck is going on?

When the state of emergency was declared, that gave FEMA the authority to coordinate relief efforts on the ground. Statement
Why wouldn't they have the authority to deny access to the Red Cross?

Besides, let's just say they don't have the authority to stop the Red Cross. Do you honestly think it might not happen somewhere in the chain of command? Communication and coordination between the various agencies in LA have not be stellar.

Also, where is the statement on the Red Cross site which states the The Louisiana Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness kept the Red Cross from entering the City?

Hurricane Katrina: Why is the Red Cross not in New Orleans?

Hurricane Katrina: Why is the Red Cross not in New Orleans?

* Acess to New Orleans is controlled by the National Guard and local authorities and while we are in constant contact with them, we simply cannot enter New Orleans against their orders.

* The state Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.

* The Red Cross has been meeting the needs of thousands of New Orleans residents in some 90 shelters throughout the state of Louisiana and elsewhere since before landfall. All told, the Red Cross is today operating 149 shelters for almost 93,000 residents.

* The Red Cross shares the nation’s anguish over the worsening situation inside the city. We will continue to work under the direction of the military, state and local authorities and to focus all our efforts on our lifesaving mission of feeding and sheltering.

* The Red Cross does not conduct search and rescue operations. We are an organization of civilian volunteers and cannot get relief aid into any location until the local authorities say it is safe and provide us with security and access.

* The original plan was to evacuate all the residents of New Orleans to safe places outside the city. With the hurricane bearing down, the city government decided to open a shelter of last resort in the Superdome downtown. We applaud this decision and believe it saved a significant number of lives.

* As the remaining people are evacuated from New Orleans, the most appropriate role for the Red Cross is to provide a safe place for people to stay and to see that their emergency needs are met. We are fully staffed and equipped to handle these individuals once they are evacuated.

Hassert and Frist came out today and said there would be a combine joint House and Senate investigation

Hopefully, this is their way of taking this out of the hands of the RINO-dominated Homeland Security Committee.

"I suspect that the Democrats are going to suddenly want to change the subject."

The Democrats cannot be allowed to cover up for an incompetent - and no doubt crooked - Louisiana State government.

That gives FEMA the authority from the Fed level. Unfortunately, the idiot Governette *still* hasn't done her part and given FEMA the authority at the state level.

Which means that it really IS LEMA's (and hence the Governette's) fault, not FEMA and the Feds'.

Seems to me that you clearly are at the bottom of a mine shaft!??!
If you really are serious to stay informed, except getting your news from the evil LSM, why don't you just go to the "Horse's Mouth" to get the facts straight, see post # 232!!!

Good information which ALL should heed. One doesn't need to be on a coastline or a major city to heed it.

Develop your plan, make your checklists, identify and gather your "stuff" and act.

Landrieu's presence has been less than satisfying.

I suspect we'll see that the Landrieu family were indeed present and pulling strings as fast as they could of the political puppet aka Blank-O.

what does she need to do to give them authority at state level? And would that really matter considering the Red Cross is an NGO?
