Edwards sees 'two Americas' after Katrina

John Edwards says the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina underscores the "two Americas" theme of his presidential campaign last year.
"We see the poor and working class of New Orleans who don't own a car and couldn't evacuate to hotels or families far from the target of Katrina," Edwards said in e-mail messages to supporters Friday "We see the suffering of families who lived from paycheck to paycheck and who followed the advice of officials and went to shelters at the Civic Center or the Superdome or stayed home to protect their possessions."
Edwards added, "We have been too slow to act in the face of the misery of our brothers and sisters. This is an ugly and horrifying wake-up call to America."
The subject of Katrina is likely to come up when Edwards today launches a lecture series at the UNC Law School's Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity.
Edwards is director of the center, and he recently named as deputy director Marion Crain, a law professor, and Laura Hogshead as assistant director.
The Democratic vice presidential nominee last year was in Chicago last week raising money for Democrats at the Knickerbocker Hotel, meeting with Englewood activists and U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush.
Edwards, who left office in January as North Carolina senator, will help Rep. Brad Miller raise money for his re-election kitty. Edwards, a former senator, is scheduled to appear at a Miller fund-raiser Oct. 10 at the home of Frank and Julia Daniels. Frank Daniels is the former publisher of The News & Observer. The cost of entry to the event ranges from $250 to $1,000.
Meanwhile, Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana, Edwards' former jogging buddy and closest friend in the Senate, has been wading into Edwards' political turf.
Bayh, who like Edwards is considering a presidential run, attended a South Carolina Democratic Party fund-raiser in Columbia last week. Edwards, a native of South Carolina, carried that state in the Democratic presidential primary last year.

If Edwards' Two Americas was true, you'd see only poor minorities rescuing poor minorities in the aftermath of Katrina.

Ok... you have identified something you apparently think is a problem. Now, what is your recommendation? As I read this you have none, just a complaint. The implication is that this should be all our problem or we are morally deficient.
The further implication is that we should vote for Edwards and his fellow travelers so they can involuntarily take our resources (taxes) and give them to someone who they decide needs to have what they are taking...
John Edwards and Hillery are from the same school of thought... we are going to take from you and give to those we view as needy... If you object you are a (1) racist; (2) uncaring miser; (3) morally corrupt; (4) a follower of Bush.
We have heard this enough... either lead, follow or get out of the way and quit obstructing people who really, really want to solve problems.

We see the suffering of families who lived from paycheck to paycheck and who followed the advice of officials and went to shelters at the Civic Center or the Superdome..and none of those "officials" is named "Bush."

This might have something to do with the problem...
...I would think he sees two of everything.

The little sissy John Edwards likes to think that there are two Americas that he can use to fill both his pockets. He's just another weasel of the left who is worthless during times when this country needs the service of real men.

Dear Karl,
Nice thought but I'm one of the elite, I just tell everyone about the disparity. You really didn't think we actually were going to "live" with or like the poor wretches did you or help them out? We just egg them on. Conflict brings about great opportunity for us lawyers don't you know. Wow, George Orwell was right you are a third rate mind.

Working class? I consider myself "working class". I have a job and I work. The picture that seems to be forming are these people doing the most whining are the self-imposed do nothings.

You had to know it was going to happen!
I think I'll call his office and ask him what he and his college pals did for these people BEFORE last Monday?
And I do mean other than take them for granted.
I'm sure he must have been to NO before the storm and warned them all to get out.

I had to double-check to see if this was a legit headline, or what seemed far more likely to me....a fake headline making fun at Edwards' worn out campaign sctick.
