Instead of blaming federal authorities, the country ought to be giving thanks

"You and your family (yes, your children, too) should be dropped right in the middle of New Orleans and be forced to live there for three days, and maybe then your tight grip on the GOP might be loosened and you'll be awakened to the failures of the incompetent man sitting in the White House." Such is the vitriol spewing forth in the aftermath of Katrina from those who believe George W. Bush is responsible for all of life's misfortunes. I received this hateful e-mail after commenting on television that while the federal response to the crisis has shouldered most of the criticism, state and local officials bore major responsibility for the chaos that enveloped New Orleans in the immediate wake of the hurricane.

Somehow I doubt that anyone whose children are trapped in the Super Dome wrote that.
In fact, it looks remarkably like a permutation on the Democrat talking point to the effect that only those who put their kids into the Army should have any say on the Iraq situation.
Or was that "have" their kids there ~ "put their kids into"? Well, anyway, that's what I think that crazy woman in Fort Worth Texas was saying ~ only people who put their kids in the Army are correct ~ wonder where her kids are.
No wonder that Cindy person is so upset if she actually put her son in the Army?
Wow!
So how does this get done?

Ha,ha...the only incompetence are the two so called leaders ...Nagin and Blanco. They are the inept ones. They had no clue on what to do. They did not belong in those jobs. The people counted on them and they failed the people MISERABLY.

The amazing thing is not that it is so screwed up, the amazing thing is that it works at all.

Naw, the people down there didn't "count on them". If you haven't figured out most folks don't care beforehand.

Instead of blaming federal authorities, the country ought to be giving thanks Deserves repeating. I'm surprised it only took a couple of days to get in there.

In our federal system of government, the national government does not step in even in dire emergency until state officials request that help. But what do you do when those officials are dysfunctional, as they clearly were in Louisiana? According to The Washington Post, federal officials have asked the governor for "unified control over all local police and state National Guard units reporting to the governor. Louisiana officials rejected the request after talks throughout the night, concerned that such a move would be comparable to a federal declaration of martial law." Blanco is inept. Out of all the eff ups, she is the worst because she had the immediate power to help/assist New Orleans and the immediate power to ask for federal help, but did not because she hates Bush.

On the afternoon of Aug. 27, Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco held a press briefing in which she answered a question about what could be done to avert disaster: "We can pray very hard that the intensity will weaken. We don't know what it's going to be yet, but we're all watching the weather service. I believe that's the best we can do right now."There was once a church going family whose town flooded. The father told his family, "Don't worry, God will take care of us."
When the water was a few feet high and into their house, a boat came by and offered to rescue them. The father said "God will take care of us."
When the water rose even higher, the family climbed onto the roof. A helocopter came by to rescue them, but the father said "God will take care of us." Well, the family drowned.
When they got to heaven, the man asked God why he didn't help them when they needed help. God said "I sent a boat and a helocopter. Why didn't you accept my help when it was offered?"
