Make no mistake. Summer is over for America -- and George Bush. That unifying image of Bush atop the pile of debris in Lower Manhattan days after Sept. 11 has been displaced by ugly accusations and recriminations over who lost New Orleans. Katrina has exposed the limits of federal power and the absence of a serious set of national priorities.
In New Orleans, those who relied on government -- the New Orleans police, the mayor, Gov. Blanco, FEMA -- suffered most. Those who relied on themselves for food, water and safety from marauding mobs of rapists and looters, with guns in their homes, fared best. Ultimately, U.S. and National Guard troops had to provide the security before government agencies and volunteers could do their rescue work.

Pat is a sad case because sometimes he can focus light on an issue like a laser beam. But about half the time his aim is off and he burns his own hand.
Now... can you guess what that ONE issue is?
LOL!
Just waiting for Pat to go into some historical example comparing the people of New Orleans to the Germans who suffered under Allied bambs.
Pat Buchanan is a disengenuous ankle biter.
"Before Bush went off on his five-week vacation"
On which he likely worked more hours than Buchanan did. The president doesn't get vacations. He gets changes of scenery. His job and his duties follow him wherever he goes and he's always receiving information and making decisions.
"among which was a quarter-billion-dollar bridge from Ketchikan, Alaska, population 8,000, to Gravina Island, population 50. Had half that sum been spent fortifying the levees of Lake Pontchartrain, New Orleans would not be underwater today."
Spending 125 million would not have been enough to make the levees capable of withstanding a category 5 hurricane.
However, I would argue that neither project is deserving of federal funding. If local funding is insufficient, then it's up to the state to determine if they should fund the project. Such projects are outside the authority granted to the federal government and they shouldn't be spending federal tax dollars on them.
Isolationism has NEVER proven to be a good economic policy in the long term.
Even on the occasions I agree with Pat Buchannan, I end up disagreeing with the underhanded way he presents things.
Note to self: Add Pat Buchannan to the Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton et al "LOONEY LIST".

Someone break this gently to Raimondo.
And a broken clock is right twice a day.
Dear Pat, the only way isolationism will work now is if we build a rocket-proof bubble over, under, and around the US, and this isn't going to happen anytime soon. Besides, the fifth column is already in place and the traitorous MSM is cheering for the same goal. We're the world's Jews now. That's reality. Deal with it.
I hope you forgot your sarcasm tag.
Agreed...can you imagine the reaction of the MSM had the mayor of NO and the gov of LA been Republicans and the President had been Bill Clinton? The MSM has become so transparently anti-Bush/ anti-Republican that it's laughable.
Sorry Pat but that's an image that will never be displaced. No matter what happens in the short term that image will live on for years and years to come.
Thoughtful argument you make, but I'm unconvinced.
Sob.
Well... were almost hated as much.
I dismiss Buchanan as I do Farrakhan...
