Beyond repair, but replaceable.
For my 40 billion tax dollars, I'd like to see them move it to a higher location thanks.
**Fifty-six percent of 609 adults polled by telephone September 5-6 said they believe the hurricane devastated the city beyond repair.**
BTTT!
It's started already, let's give a pass to mistakes made BEFORE the storm.
Take a look at the aerial photographs of the city:
That's the most significant issue about the possible rebuilding of NO where it is. It looks like most of the housing stock has been ruined by the flood and will have to be bulldozed before any rebuilding can be done.
Then the real fun will start. The land has been marinating in a horribly toxic and septic brew for the last week and much of it will continue to do so for a month or two. At that point it will be somewhere between very hard and impossible to great any kind of environmental clearance for reconstruction of residential housing. After all, how many people on this board would want to have a 2.5 yr. old daughter or grand daughter playing in the back yard and making mud pies out of that polluted earth??
That means most of the inundated areas will have to be used for commercial and industrial purposes, instead of the residential purposes they were used for before the flood. New housing will have to be constructed high and dry where it can be.
I've never advocated socialism, but I think that lawyers should be under socialized care system before doctors. If that were to happen, socialized medicine would never be implemented.
At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.
Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, and shelter.
If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you.
Right now the site mostly covers Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas but I will add various churches, schools, and other charities in Lubbock and Austin tonight. My wife was down at Reunion Arena in Dallas yesterday handing out care packages and spiritually ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer. She says that the situation is tragic and that there's a lot of work to be done. There are so many children who don't know where their parents are or even if their parents are still alive.
There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would appreciate it if you would get the word out.
Many thanks,
Michael McCullough

"Lefties are asking the government to cap oil profits."
BO of Fox was on last week demanding oil companies roll back their profits 20%. I'm sure he'll be donating 20% of his salary to the relief effort.
