I'm glad this is in the Washington Times.

Thanks for posting it here.

The mayor hesitated because he was afraid of angering his constituency. An enforced, mandatory evacuation would've forced out a lot of black Democrats, and this would've caused a great deal of backlash in the event that the hurricane did not cause as much damage as predicted.

No doubt that is part of it. But if you stop & think, apparently the NO Zoo was not evacuated either. I think there might be a parallel here...

This is today's smokescreen by the media. Prepare to hear "FEMA red tape" and bureaucracy hammered home all day.

The Fox and Friends crew has already begun this. Usually, Steve and Brian are better than this, but they've seem to have jumped on the "stupid" bandwagon this morning. '

I thought I'd ping you to this article, which seems to nail down the Friday we all wondered about from the WaPo article earlier in the week.

The Friday in question was the Friday BEFORE the storm!

Saw that in a movie once, except it was New York City, and it was the day after tomorrow... and the wolves got out and started hunting people.

Funny thing is, the bossy vice president looked a lot like Dick Cheney. How coincidental. ;-)

It's hard to believe that she put her stupidity and incompetence into writing. While she should have been preparing for a hurricane, she was preparing a request for federal funds.

However Blanco and Nagin HAD!!!!! the authority and resources to sufficiently mitigate the terrible effects of the flood.

Nagin killed thousands more of his impoverished constituents through his 48 hours of real inaction before the storm
than
the Feds killed through their alleged 48 hours of inaction after the storm.

The Republicans have again showed their knack for playing the sap. The perennial Charlie Brown to the DNC Lucy.

And Bush and Rove have shown the can play it very well starting with trying to make NICE NICE with Teddy and Tommy and getting screwed in return

Rather than cede control, Blanco on Saturday morning named James Lee Witt who ran the Federal Emergency Management Agency under Clinton, to “RUN RELIEF EFFORTS” I can see where the real FEMA might have gotten tangled up (if in fact they did).

Blanco’s political motive becomes clear also. It was to maintain control through the relief effort so that she could play the role of the hero, as evidenced by her canceled visit (due to President Bush’s visit) to the Houston Astrodome to hob-knob with BJ Clinton.

Unfortunately her delay cost lives, something she didn’t calculate into her political equation, but this may be overlooked if the MSM/Dem’s can maintain the drumbeat, however, it looks like the levee that is holding back the truth is about to be breeched.

Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco did not ask for help from the National Guard until Thursday and still refuses to share authority over the Guard with the federal government. She is also creating her own base of emergency management power by enlisting former FEMA director James Lee Witt to run emergency operations for her.

Of the 300,000 Guard troops in the United States, 6,500 are in Louisiana, and nearly half of those are deployed abroad, most of them in Iraq.

. . . where they are safer than they would have been in Louisiana.

"To the dismay of New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, the governor told the president she wanted 24 hours to decide whether to accept the offer because Mr. Bush, as commander-in-chief, wanted control of the troops. Many of the governor's constituents died because of the delay.....I think we found at least 24 hours that could have saved thousands of lives....."

You have swallowed the MSM hype..no evidence of THOUSANDS OF DEATHS..this is pure Propaganda to make NO look even worse than it was..my guess less than 500 deaths in NO and most due to shootings and stabbings. sad but let us at FR be more accurate about the numbers please..

Now that's interesting...Hillary in cover-up mode.

Matt Lauer read an article on the air that says the NYT said it's too early to decide whether FEMA should be separated from Homeland Security.

I think it honestly took Hillary by surprise; her staff must not have sent out the memo to the Times.

And of course, Matt didn't mention that Hillary voted FOR FEMA to be put with Homeland Security.

I know alot of people are saying "bring on the investigations", but do you really think the MSM will not spin these all into Bush's fault. Look what they did with the 9-11 commission
