Democrats shift strategy on Roberts
Plan to use Katrina to highlight racial and economic divide
By Rick Klein, Globe Staff | September 7, 2005
WASHINGTON -- Senate Democrats said yesterday that they will invoke the vast disparities in income and living conditions laid bare by the Hurricane Katrina disaster to sharpen their questioning of Supreme Court nominee John G. Roberts Jr. at his confirmation hearings next week.
The scenes of devastation featuring primarily poor African-American residents in New Orleans have highlighted the widening gap between rich and poor, said Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Democrat of Massachusetts.
With Roberts having urged a narrow interpretation of civil rights laws in the past, Senate Democrats will link the scenes of economic hardship with the constitutional and legal issues that surround efforts to address racial and economic inequalities, he said.
''We have made very important progress over the period of the last 50 years in knocking down walls of discrimination so that people can participate and be a part of a changed America," said Kennedy, a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. ''And he's going to be asked to explain some of his advice that would have, I think, undermined that progress in important ways."

Wonder what Lord Lindsey of Graham is thinking?
More shameful behavior by democrats.
Just prior to the hearings, Bush should announce Janice Rogers Brown as his pick to fill the second vacancy.
The smell of desperation is oozing from every corner of Democrat Nation. They are really and truly losing it, flailing about like a punch-drunk old fighter who doesn't even know the bell has rung. And with their wild-eyed Media enablers still cheering them on from the sidelines, it's no wonder they always look like they have no clue what hit them each and every time Bush wins another round.
Just when you thought they hit bottom, they install a new lower bottom.
Rush says: "If you place feces outside a door, they will always steps right into it instead of step over it"!!!!
He is crapolaing his pants because he never thought he would have to pull the trigger on the Constitutional Option.
At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.
Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, and shelter.
If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you.
Right now the site mostly covers Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio but I will add various churches, schools, and other charities in Ft. Worth and Lubbock tonight. My wife spent yesterday at Reunion Arena in Dallas handing out care packages and otherwise ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer.
There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would greatly appreciate it if you would get the word out.
Many thanks,
Michael McCullough

The title might as well be: Plan to use Katrina to divide people among racial and economic lines.
don't forget to highlight the Black and Democrat leadership of LA and N.O.!
