Democrats shift strategy on Roberts
Plan to use Katrina to highlight racial and economic divide

WASHINGTON -- Senate Democrats said yesterday that they will invoke the vast disparities in income and living conditions laid bare by the Hurricane Katrina disaster to sharpen their questioning of Supreme Court nominee John G. Roberts Jr. at his confirmation hearings next week.
The scenes of devastation featuring primarily poor African-American residents in New Orleans have highlighted the widening gap between rich and poor, said Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Democrat of Massachusetts.
With Roberts having urged a narrow interpretation of civil rights laws in the past, Senate Democrats will link the scenes of economic hardship with the constitutional and legal issues that surround efforts to address racial and economic inequalities, he said.
''We have made very important progress over the period of the last 50 years in knocking down walls of discrimination so that people can participate and be a part of a changed America," said Kennedy, a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. ''And he's going to be asked to explain some of his advice that would have, I think, undermined that progress in important ways."

I watched their press conference from today, tonight on CSPAN, and they're already hinting at it.
They're going to wave this around like a bloody shirt. They always overreach - but I never expected that they'd do so in such despicable fashion as this.
Just when you thought they hit bottom, they install a new lower bottom.
They didn't say it, but their comments nearly gave the suggestion that "Bush doesn't care about blacks" and that Republicans and Conservatives hold the black population back and down. The same mindless pap being trumpeted by the likes of Je$$e Jackson.
I watched the Tavis Smiley Show tonight. The water has barely begun to pump and the democrats are plotting already. There was supposed to be a Katrina victims' rally in NYC and it turned into a violent Bush bashing fest.
I hope Roberts himself has some choicely terse things to say that pops their bubble. If more blacks are down and out than whites, y'know you ever think they got that way through the 'soft bigotry of low expectations'? If you keep being told you've been stomped on so much for your race that you'll never make it in an even contest as well as the other guy, by george you'll begin to believe it. Then folks immigrate from Africa, and blow that illusion right out of the water.
The left continually insults the intelligence of every American, including their own voter base.
This will be recognized by just about everyone as a divisive, race baiting move and most Americans will deeply resent it. Remember, just about every state in the union is accepting evacuees.
Except maybe Hawaii, and with all the dough being doughnated that ought to be a snap to get to as well.
Does this logic apply to Jon Corzine, Herb Kohl and John Rockefeller?

Yeah, they are going to wonder "just what is this bite-the-hand-that-feeds-you bunch we all just donated to"? America will be shocked, I tell you, just shocked.
Nope. Not even to Hollyweird leftists. They say to middle America, "we're one of you".
Created by their own welfare laws. Wasn't LBJ Reputed to have said that welfare would "keep the n*****s voting for us for generations to come"?
This may turn out to be worse than the Clarence Thomas hearings. They want to ingrain into the American psyche that Roberts is a racist, bigoted, homophobe.
