Ok...I need advice on what kind of shotgun I should buy....something easy for me to handle.
Pump-action shotgun, 12 ga. if you're small or frail, get a 20ga. Mossberg makes a nice one and so does Remington. Most folks like the Remington 870. If you don't have the time or inclination to practice a shotgun will still work pretty well but you should find the time to practice. many report that just the sound of the slide being racked will scare off most folks. It would scare me. Use OO buck shot if your neighbors aren't too close, use bird shot if they are. Either way, you will dissuade most malefactors with a shotgun
Mossburg 500, remington 870, Winchester defender,
Go for 20-12 gauge learn the difference of recoil in various shotshell loads
A 12 was a bit much for me and a 410 isn't quite powerful enough although it is a great target gun.
Mossberg 12 gauge pump, 20" barrel; a case of number four shot shells.
If you are not familiar with firearms, contact the National Rifle Association or your local sheriff's department. Take lessons.
GO TO THE RANGE EVERY DAY, AND LEARN HOW TO USE THE WEAPON!
For pumps, Reminton, Winchester, and Mossberg (my favorite) are excellent choices.
However, you can get some fine single shots for about 100 bucks in anything from .410 to 12 guage.

The nice thing about a shotgun is the shot doesn't go through multiple walls. You don't kill the people sleeping in your home. Also, someone breaking in is going to take one look and decide you can't miss. Oh, and if it's a crook and you know it is, don't say something like "Don't move or I'll shoot - because crooks don't understand fair play. When he hears your voice, he'll shoot.
A Model 870 Remington is nice. Don't forget a couple boxes of 00 while you are at it.
Mossberg Persuader.... 20 ga if you're not used to the recoil of a shotgun and don't plan on practicing a lot. You might need to get off a second shot. A 20 ga will stop anyone entering your home.
