Bob Denver, whose portrayal of goofy first mate Gilligan on the 1960s television show "Gilligan's Island," made him an iconic figure to generations of TV viewers, has died, his agent confirmed Tuesday. He was 70.

Denver, who underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery earlier this year, died at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in North Carolina, according to agent Mike Eisenstadt. Denver's death was first reported by "Entertainment Tonight."

The professor and Mary Ann,

That was the newer version. In the first year or two, they used "And the rest".

Did anyone have him in the Howie Carr Death Pool?

Or John and Ken's Ghoul Pool?

Which reignites the perennial debate.....Ginger or Marianne?

Followed closely by Wilma or Betty. Both get the same response from me..."both at once".

Depends on your time frame. Ginger to rent, Maryanne to buy...

My favorite episode was when they were about to get off the island and Gilligan did something to screw things up. Anyone remember that one?

I see you liked them all!

Anybody remember Maynard G. Krebbs?

Remember him? When I was a kid he was the role model that replaced Buggs Bunny. (Luckily, I somehow ended up with a subscription to National Review and found Chairman Bill to get me through the next phase of life’s progression).

Wow.

I must say that this is sad news.
I used to watch Gilligan's Island as a kid ALL the time. It seemed like it was on 5 times a day in the late 70's.

The cool thing about that show is that the cast (except for Ginger) were very good together and good friends after the show.
What a great cast and a fun show.

I got my kids hooked on it on DVD, they LOVE it.

Hard to believe that it ran on prime time, with all the filth that is on today, amazing.

Bob lasted a good long time for a pot-head!

Wow, I feel worse about this than I do New Orleans. (kidding, sort of)

Anybody remember Maynard G. Krebbs?

Certainly do. If I recall, the 'G' stood for "Walter".

Oh man! I wonder! I can't imagine anyone would have him in Howies Death pool. I hope so, it's always fun to listen when he goes through the new selections.

I got a sweater like that as Christmas present from my uncle.

It was orange.

It said "Like, lifted from Maynard."

Thought the four best episodes [no particular order]: (1) Jack and the Bean Stalk, (2) Surfer dude ridding the tsunami back/forth to/from island, (3) mad scientist on the "other" remote island that swapped minds between the castaways, (4) Russian cosmonauts stranded on the island that were immune to Vodka overdosing.

Did I watch too much Gilligan's Island (and Three Stooges)? Yes I did. Heck I still laugh my tail off when I watch these shows today... and I'm 40 years old.

You'll be missed Bob Denver.

Snap out of that fantasy pronto... Rosie O'Donnell played Betty in the Flintstones movie. :-]
