Bob Denver, whose portrayal of goofy first mate Gilligan on the 1960s television show "Gilligan's Island," made him an iconic figure to generations of TV viewers, has died, his agent confirmed Tuesday. He was 70.
Denver, who underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery earlier this year, died at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in North Carolina, according to agent Mike Eisenstadt. Denver's death was first reported by "Entertainment Tonight."

Fact: Did you know you can sing Amazing Grace to the tune of Gilligan's island?

Wow. A steady stream of sad and sorry news. Hurricane, Rhenquist, and now Gilligan.
Prayers going up for his friends and family.

Sid and Marty Krofft were on some seriously strong acid in the 70's. I won't even go into how long it took for me to realize that Sid and Marty Krofft weren't making those shows only just for kids.
Rip Bob Denver.
I boycott the Grammys until they recognize the band that almost always played on the Gilligan's Island radio. They did just about all music.

Both sounds like a winner LOL
Of course these days you have Professor guys too.
But growing up it was one or the other. Or Marcia Brady vs. Laurie Partridge (there is a both if there ever was one!)

Little off topic, but look at the resemblance: Alan Hale Sr.
Alan Hale Jr. (Skipper)
Senior was a character actor in many of the 30's and 40's WB films, probably best remembered as "Little John" in the 1938 Errol Flynn "Adventures of Robin Hood". He died in 1950 of liver disease.

Man, I always had him pegged to be the sole survivor. I figured Russell Johnson would be next.

The mate was a mighty sailing man, The skipper brave and sureJust sit right back and you'll hear a tale, A tale of a fateful trip That started from this tropic port Aboard this tiny ship. The mate was a mighty sailing man, The skipper brave and sure. Five passengers set sail that day For a three hour tour, a three hour tour. The weather started getting rough, The tiny ship was tossed, If not for the courage of the fearless crew The minnow would be lost, the minnow would be lost. The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle With Gilligan The Skipper too, The millionaire and his wife, The movie star The professor and Mary Ann, Here on Gilligans Isle. So this is the tale of the castways, They're here for a long, long time, They'll have to make the best of things, It's an uphill climb. The first mate and the Skipper too, Will do their very best, To make the others comfortable, In the tropic island nest. No phone, no lights no motor cars, Not a single luxury, Like Robinson Crusoe, As primative as can be. So join us here each week my friends, You're sure to get a smile, From seven stranded castways, Here on "Gilligan's Isle."

I was more of a Maynard G. Krebs fan than a Gilligan's Island one.
My favorite Maynard line:
"I'm an angry young man."
"Why?"
"I don't know, and that's why I'm angry."
RIP, Maynard. You brought a lot of laughs to a lot of people.

Dobie Gillis was a very innovative show. Wasn't another big star in that as well. Shirley McLain's brother, Warren Beatty?
