Did you happen to catch something Limbaugh said on his radio program today about the levees in NO? Limbaugh got an e-mail telling him that the levees in NO are all run by a separate board for each and every levee. A separate board. That's why no more levees have been built. The members in charge of their little fiefdoms don't want to give up any of their power. And the voters who'd have to approve any changes kowtow to the board members. It also means there is no single flood control authority in all of NO. Unbelievable.

That sounds about right. They have six members who are "appointed" by mayors of NOLA.... and I believe most of the mayors have been pretty big crooks? Someone was going to fill me in on Moon Landrieu at some point.

Unbelievable.I missed that part of Rush's show today, but it sounds correct-- here in Georgia, the state is riddled with "Authorities"-- little independent fifedoms with their own budgets, staffs, and lots of ( our tax ) money to spend.
Appointed by the current Governor, they are usually staffed by political croneys and people owed favors to, and only the Guv has any hold over them. You can't vote the rascals out of office.

Didn't I also read that the levee that was expected to break didn't and it was one that was not expected to break that did? (Boy, that's a terrible sentence).
Also, there was an article on FR today that said strengthening of the levees was to be completed in 2013. I see they had a sense of urgency :-)
