That is ridiculous. Why are they sending LA refugees to another stricken state?

Maybe they should bus them all on down to the farm in Crawford. Laura can bake biscuits for them, and Bar can change some dirty dipeys.

And Old George can entertain them by parachuting out of airplanes.

You're a good person for trying.

It's like being in a bad marriage. No matter what you do, it's never enough.

Don't change any more diapers. That's a job for mom and dad.

Oh God, we are stuck with them, for now. I'm also stuck with the same out of touch Governor and Mayor, not to mention President. There is something we might can do about the Mayor, the rest can wait until the next election.

Anyway, for all you wanting evacuees, take some of ours, please.

Mayor orders forced removal of all in city
(New Orleans, LA, Sept. 6, 2005)

Mayor Nagin today released a declaration of Emergency Order for the City of New Orleans. The declaration reads as follows:

Whereas, the presence of individuals not specifically engaged by the City, State or U.S. Government to assist in the remediation and recovery effort would distract, impede, or divert essential resources from the recover effort.

Now, therefore, I as the Mayor of the City of New Orleans, pursuant to the authority granted by Louisiana Revised Statutes 29:727 and: 730.2, do hereby promulgate and issue the following mandatory evacuation order, which shall supercede the Order issued by me on August 28, 2005, which shall remain in effect for thirty days from this date, unless extended by my order or earlier terminated by my order:

Civil District Court District Court for the Parish of Orleans, State of Louisiana City of New Orleans

Promulgation of Emergency Order

Whereas, Hurricane Katrina has caused catastrophic damage to the City of New Orleans, including, without limitation, several breaches in the levee system, loss of power and water service and the collapse and or loss of structural integrity of roadways, building and other structures;

Whereas, the above referenced damage necessitates an immediate and unimpeded recovery effort by the City, the State of Louisiana and the Untied States Government;

Effective immediately, any public safety officer within the boundaries of the Parish of Orleans, including, without limitation, members of the New Orleans, including, without limitation, members of the New Orleans Police Department, the New Orleans Fire Department, the National Guard and any branch of the U.S. Military, is hereby instructed and authorized to compel the evacuation of all persons from the City of New Orleans, regardless of whether such persons are on private property or do not desire to leave, unless such persons are determined by such public safety officers to be specifically engaged by the City, the State or the U. S. Government in providing assistance in the remediation and recovery effort.

Those persons who are currently located in Algiers on the West Bank side of Orleans Parish are hereby excepted from this Order.

The City Attorney is hereby directed to file this Order with the Clerk of Court.

It's like being in a bad marriage. No matter what you do, it's never enough.

Ya know, that is almost the exact analogy I use about liberals. They are like an abuser- it's never enough and they always blame you for everything. No matter what you do, it's the wrong thing. Reminds me of my ex-husband.

I will NEVER be a volunteer for anything again.

One nifty thing about volunteer work is that you can skip it with the only consequence being on your conscience.

Sometimes holding back is better for the other guy, than helping is.

"Mayor Nagin sleeping on USS Iwo Jima. Had medical exam, hot shower, etc. "

This would be a good time to quote Imus, who has been absurd recently: It's time for a check-up from the neck up for the mayor.

Thought y'all might want to see some pics from the "forgotten" areas:
Bay Front Road, Mobile, AL
Pascagoula & Ocean Springs
These are pics of Goula (up to pic 266) for the most part, and a few of Ocean Springs (267 - 271). The pic of the lone flag flying in front of nothing is were Senator Lotts' house used to be I believe. These pics were taken while driving east down Beach Blvd, and the others are of Market Street.

I ran out of batteries and didn't get any of Gautier. The last 5 or 6 pics are of a house my Mom is building in Vancleve. A couple of evacuee families will be occupying that house (lucky them) for a while because they don't have a house any more. And don't give me any flack about the tarp job. I did it by myself with no ladder, and I'm not tall.

I was asked not to bring my camera while delivering food and water from Volunteer Mobile to folks in Bayou La Batre, but I hope to get back down there to take a few shots. I will have a complete photo essay on my trip down towards the beginning of next week. If I get a chance tomorrow, I'll ride over to Biloxi and get some shots.

Just some amazing photos. Thanks for posting for all to see.

My heart goes out to those families with destroyed homes.

What's surprising is to see so many of the old, beautiful trees still standing. Glad a lot of them survived (at least it looks that way). I love the trees of MS.

I love this line in the article:

"The authorities lost control of the streets. Which one of Tom Ridge's homeland-security color codes does that fall under?"

I always know I'm at least close to home when there's moss in the Oaks.

yep but you have to blow off the really huge big stuff too,,,like how he irritates me when he butters his bagel and dips the knife into the jelly and gets butter all in the jelly, and how he habitually drops one sock on the side of the bed and how he never enters cash flows into the checkbook and how he hides my car keys when we go on vacation and then doesn't tell me where he hid them.

The minor irritations of everyday life.
