This thread is for Katrina news and updates.
I thought Kerick should have had the job and suspect we would see a different result, simply because he has the mind of a cop, not a lawyer, and his history in cleaning up Times Square is well-known... a place that has back-slid significantly since Rudi and Bernie are no longer in charge BTW.
Thanks, cajungirl. Sometimes I wonder how long term marriages survive and then I realize it's by deciding you want to stay married and blow off the small stuff.
I know, I know..
But the part of me as a Christian knows that in God's eyes my sins(MANY) are equal to MJ's...
I am a patsy for giving the benefit of the doubt too often , I know.
I KNOW personally three pedo's who I have counseled & for 5, 6 & 9 years are "clean"..they struggle & they are in pain - but now they are making a positive impact in life & our proud rather than in shame.
I would hate for my "past" to be documented as has MJs..
Oh I'm not offended by those jokes. I'm only part Cajun. They have some dumb folks in this state. The Orleans Parish teachers would more than likely speak ebonics not Cajun. The outlying areas are more affluent and the schools are better. They only French that is taught is standard French, Cajun French is an oral language. In a couple of generations it will more than likely die out.
They did do a mandatory evacuation with Ivan. There were several problems that should have been addressed and heeded. They just figured it would turn like it has always done. So they did not make the necessary adjustments.
My brother had a friend who rode it out in Metarie and Katrina kicked that Marine's butt. He said he would NEVER be that stupid again and stay. To scare a Marine says something on how bad it was.
Thank the Good Lord! I am so happy for you, mh.
How they fall through the cracks??? I can't believe he said that. Try only hiring people who live in NOLA, hiring people with a criminal background and then exponging their record after they complete the academy. only promoting from the ranks, even if the people in the ranks are questionable.
thank you for the clarification on amom.. bless her!
NASHVILLE, TN (AP): A person who survived Hurricane Katrina tried to kill themselves as they were being taken farther from disaster scene.
An evacuee made the suicide attempt while traveling on a flight from Houston to Washington D.C.
The United Express flight was diverted to Nashville.
A captain with the Tennessee Air National Guard says the flight had eight evacuees on board. She says she doesn't have any details about the suicide attempt.
The passenger who attempted suicide was taken to a hospital. Officials say that at the pilot's request, all passengers underwent a second security screening before the flight was resumed.
Good grief.
I'm begging to think this is all too fast and not well thought out.
I wonder if the NO officer will try to loot Ceaser's Shops....
traumatic stress, ya know
I wish you AND your church the best possible luck.
I was thinking the same as you this afternoon when they were interviewing some of the evacuees that are in Houston.
They were wanting to transfer some to cruise ships in Galveston...and they REALLY didn't want to go because they were tired of moving around, were afraid no one in their families would find them if they moved there..and most of all...they didn't want to be on or around WATER..especially the Gulf...
As far as not planned out...we already know that the NOLA part wasn't. We do know that Texas has terrific hurricane evacuation and shelter plans..they are using them now..
The problem is, Howlin...that these plans are for TEXANS, not displaced people for LA...and the further they get shifted away from perhaps the only place they have ever lived....they might just be so terrified..they are likely to do anything.
So glad for your great news!!!!

Wonderful news - prayers answered! Please keep your prayers coming for those FReepers still silent since Katrina's wrath, and for the volunteers assisting in the devastated areas.
Sometimes it is necessary to do things we don't like but down the road we see we are better for it. What if it was your town that was obliterated and everything you knew was changed in an instant?
My city has been nearly doubled but where do we put these people? I finally braved Walmart and I could tell things were different but what I noticed was there are a whole lot of people who are still shell shocked, lost and desperate. They are frantic and hopeless right now. It's up to us to be there for them because one day it could be us.
There is a church here in town that is converting their Sunday School building into apartments for permanent housing and they are currently housing 150 people, other churches are doing the same thing. One family here has 37 family members staying in their little house with one bathroom but all are thankful for being alive.
It's only been one week since the levee broke and it is an adjustment period for everybody but hey we at least have our homes and family intact.
MSNBC reporting the first cases of cholera in NO. Also reporting water is a toxic mess of sewagw, human flesh, and chemicals.
The corpses are falling apart and the contamination is spreading.
I think all those responders are going to get sick...and the armed forces also.
All due to Lake Nagin.
