Amen...spot on! Now the rest of the DNC and linberal/left are doing the same thing.
It's a two-fer for Blanco.
1) She gets help, from Witt, a FEMA expert, on getting her books in order before an auditor asks to see them.
2) She can imply that Brown/Bush are incompetents compared to Clinton/Witt.
No doubt! I said yesterday, that if NO politicians are that corrupt and inept, the city should probably be under Federal control, just like DC.
The fools are bitching because President Bush didn't personally come to NO and micro-manage a situation that is their responsibility to administer. If the elected 'leaders' down there are that stupid and ineffective, maybe the Feds do need to install some close adult supervision over them.
The real scandal that may come out of this is if the DNC was advising Blanco on what to do, knowing that Bush would take the fall.
That would make Watergate look pale in comparison.
Your piece about disaster preparedness and responsibility contained in the link you provided was great. It was thought provoking and very helpful, especially the suggestion about having a disaster kit. Probably something all of us should have, whether we live on a flood plain or in hurricane/tornado country or not. Thank you.
I might add one more thing to the disaster kit, if no one else thought to do so: Medication (that is, the usual daily medicines taken by those who have chronic illnesses). A friend of mine has a disaster kit something like the one you suggested...she's diabetic, so she keeps a certain amount of her diabetic supplies in her kit. She goes through the kit every several months or so and replaces the insulin so whatever she has on hand is fresh.
You make valid points about being responsible for oneself and not relying on government to take the initiative. I know if I saw flood waters rising or a hurricane or tornado approaching, I'd be long gone away from the trouble.

I don't appreciate Phone Bill's nightly endorsement of looting--as long as it's only for food. He seems to be focusing on the governor, but seems to be letting the mayor off the hook.
Thanks to Texas and leaders there and at the national level who had the will and wisdom to make the neccessary calls (which did not happen from the leaders in NO and LA)...those poor people are on an upward track now.

The story was yesterday and it was featured on one of my ISP home pages, so I think it was either AP (on Comcast) or MSNBC (on MSN). I'm not finding it on their pages today, but I am wondering if anyone posted it. I never find stories when I search.
RE: The truth is this. Governor Blanco of Louisiana did not have a disaster plan in place, did not have enough state police and National Guard to secure a city the size of New Orleans, and did not push for federal help soon enough.
Only the last of his statements above are true. The Governor and the Mayor did have a plan - they didn't follow it. There were plenty of National Guard and police to do the job - she dithered and vacillated and refused to issue the orders to them, or to authorize the the President to do so.

At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.
Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, and shelter.
If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you.
Right now the site mostly covers Houston and Dallas but I will add various churches, schools, and other charities in San Antonio and Ft. Worth tonight. My wife is down at Reunion Arena in Dallas as we speak handing out care packages and otherwise ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer.
There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would be most appreciative if you would get the word out.
