Monday, Sept. 5, 2005 11:38 p.m. EDT Mayor Nagin: Gov. Blanco Delayed Rescue
After days of blaming the federal officials for not responding quickly enough to the Hurricane Katrina crisis, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin praised President Bush on Monday - and charged that Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco had delayed federal rescue efforts by 24-hours.
"I'm so happy that the president came down here," Nagin said of Bush's Friday visit to Louisiana in an interview with CNN. "He came down and saw it, and he put a general on the field. His name is General Honore. And when he hit the field, we started to see action."
But Nagin had harsh words for his state's leaders, telling CNN: "What the state was doing, I don't frigging know. But I tell you, I am pissed. It wasn't adequate." The New Orleans Democrat said he urged Bush to meet privately with Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco during the visit. The meeting took place aboard Air Force One, he said.
After reviewing the crisis with Gov. Blanco, Bush summoned Nagin for a private chat - where, according to Nagin, Bush explained: "Mr. Mayor, I offered two options to the governor. I said . . . I was ready to move today. The governor said she needed 24 hours to make a decision."
Reacting to the governor's footdragging, Nagin lamented: "It would have been great if we could of left Air Force One, walked outside, and told the world that we had this all worked out."
"It didn't happen, and more people died."
Blanco Cried,,,,,,People Died,,,,,,,,MSM Lied.
No, now Blanco will off Nagin, and everyone will blame CIA...
They wanted Nagin to be President, but now that he is praising the President? LOL They'll want his tongue slit, or they'll claim Rove got to him.
Either way the man didn't go from cursing the President and saying the CIA was on him, to praising him, without sniffing the political winds. Nagin's out to save himself, and he feels the President is the one that's going to be clean in this so he wants some of his coattails to ride it out.
Well the Dem ticket is all set for 2008 Pres. election
Blanco-Pres.
Nagin- V.P. Bye Bye Hilary
Bye Bye USA
I just serfed enemy territory, and it appears they haven't heard the news yet. There hasn't been one suicide post tonight.
Right now, it's still Bush's fault, and they're waiting for the nation to take up arms and throw Bush into prison. *sigh* They must have some pretty heavy duty drugs over there.
Just for the record, the massive flooding in New Orleans was not caused by the storm surge. It was caused by water flow through levee breaches from Lake Pontchartrain.
And it's truly naive to expect local buses to move 1/3 of the city in less than 48 hours. Even assuming that everyone was standing and waiting at bus stations with important medicines and papers in hand.
How about "While Blanco cried--people DIED"
"And it's truly naive to expect local buses to move 1/3 of the city in less than 48 hours."
Nonsense....they could have made a huge dent in running all those buses 24 hrs/day instead of sitting there getting flooded out. The effort was pitiful no less.
okay---you beat me to it and got all of the 'rats' in----thanks
The first time I saw her on TV in one of those group pressers, I thought she was the head of some agency somewhere in LA. She did not speak like a governor, she did not sound like anyone in charge of anything. She sounded soft and helpless as a kitten, and Landrieu was feeding her lines. My jow DROPPED later when I realized THAT PERSON was the governor.
LOL.....
They are both fubar..
Your know the Democrats have been hawking this as a 'turning point' in our nation. I think they are not going to like the way the screw turns in the end.
G-d bless you and I hope your recovery goes swiftly. I know I'm not alone wishing you well as your family puts your lives back together.
400 buses, 60 people per load, going to Baton Rouge, can move 480,000 people in 48 hours.
