HOUSTON, Texas (CNN) -- Former President Bill Clinton on Monday said the government "failed" the thousands of people who lived in coastal communities devastated by Hurricane Katrina, and said a federal investigation was warranted in due time.

"The mind reels."
FBI files, my lad; FBI files!
Haven't you heard about the now 200 police officers of the NO PD who have not shown up for work?
I have contempt for every politician and freeper who grandstands on this as a mere opportunity to bash Bush and FEMA.
Excrement stains is all they are.
They don't call him "Slick Willy" for nothing, he didn't specify the level of government that failed.
It is NOT FEMAs role to stock local shelters; local responsibilty.
So far you are zero for one.
Is that all you had after your condemnation of FEMA?
A list of one item????????
NOLA people who expect gov. to take care of them were failed by a bunch of Dems. and themselves for trusting a bunch of Dems. No one else. If they had worked half as hard as they are at blaming Bush they city would have been empty of people.
What do you know about emergency relief and disaster preparedness? I think your expectaions are out of line.
Not what to you speculate or feel, what do you KNOW?
Do you think that FEMA has choppers and loads of trucks stockpiled with food and all kinds of utility workers and firefighters and po-lice?
If America really wants the feds to usurp the power of the local and state governments then they better be prepared to pay an extremely steep price.
Funny thing is that I'm not hearing gipes abou FEMA from Mississipi.
Bottom line is that FEMA is NOT a first response agency
and ANY response before 72 hours is ahead of schedule.
If the people who work crew boats in Morgan City can get water to the hurricane victims in less than 48 hours I would expect the Fed to be as if not more responsive.
Everyone failed the hurricane victims, from the President to the Orleans Parish dog catcher.
I saw the interview as well; my impression was that he was blaming the Feds...but because he didn't clarify WHICH govt. he was talking about (slick willy) one could easily assume it wasn't the local/state governments, as his very next sentence was jumping right into using the word FEDERAl, as in investigation....
You have not and cannot support your feelings on this issue with facts.
How about if your customers make unsubstantiated complaints about your work even to the point of fabricating baseless requirments for their satisfaction. Fair? Hardly. Honest? Absolutely not.
But that is exactly what you are doing. Fair? Hardly. Honest? Absolutely not.
Doesn't it tell you something when you're in strong agreement with the most liberal Liberals is the country?
Except for the Evacuation of 1.25 million people from New Orleans in less than 48 hours over two roads, everyone else failed.
And your evidence that everything that FEMA did failed is what exactly?
Your intuition?

But don't the the facts ruin your feelings about this.
Does that go for television personalities and dumb Hollywood actors and actresses? Joe Scarborough, Wolfe Blitzer, and even some Fox News folks can't ask a question without trying to phrase it so the answer will be critical of the administration or Bush. Last night, I heard Scarborough interviewing the editor of a South Mississippi paper, and he kept trying to get the man to say something critical, and the man kept telling him 'now wasn't the time to play the blame game'. When Scarborough was wrapping up the interview and reiterating what the man had said, he added something the man had not even said! Now if Mary Landrieu wants to 'punch' someone who deserves having their lights punched out, she ought to punch Joe Scarborough and Wolfe Blitzer. It's not a crime to punch them, but it is if she touches our President!
Maybe this will answer your question. Scarborough used to be my congressman and I was proud of that. Here's what I wrote to the Pensacola News Journal:
In the days immediately following Hurricane Katrina, President Bushs political opponents rushed to denounce his efforts to provide emergency relief to the area.
Forget that President Bush declared Louisiana a disaster area before the governor did, people like Robert Kennedy, Jr., Al Sharpton, and Hillary Clinton blamed the President for everything from causing the hurricane to delaying relief because of New Orleans black skinned residents.
Crisis reveals character and interestingly Joe Scarborough took this opportunity to align himself with those of the extreme Left.
Joes ravaging comments did nothing to help the logistics in any way. All he did was add fuel to the fire of those that dedicate their lives to defeating every aspect of the Bush Administration.
It is understandable that the mayor of New Orleans and the governor of Louisiana would rail on the President; first they must cover their enormous failings; second, they are Democrats.
Qatar and Kuwait offer hundreds of millions of dollars in aid yet Joe took the opportunity to dance on the graves of Katrinas victims in order to blast the President.
I dont know why he did that, but he permanently lost my vote for any office for which he may run.
Bush's Fault. Clinton wants to feel more of your pain.
