Former first lady and mother to President Bush said Monday that evacuees from New Orleans have found a home in Houston.
"Almost everyone Ive talked to says we're going to move to Houston," Barbara Bush told NPR.
"What Im hearing is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality.
"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this (she chuckles slightly)--this is working very well for them."
Editor & Publisher notes the former First Lady's remarks were aired this evening on National Public Radio's "Marketplace" program.
Developing...
Not the smartest thing to say...
uh-oh
I think the headline on Drudge already distorts what she said.
What did she say that was bad?
That was my response exactly. Here we go...
The truth of the matter is that they WILL be better off away from the city and the gangs.
She is bullet proof. She can say anything and get away with it. Besides, what she said was OK.
At least she didn't mention the looters, shooters, and brain-dead mayor.
Oh my God... .. what's next? She is a wonderful woman...just a very stupid statement....
It's not the first report of evacuees liking the cities they are in. (Contrast this with Fox News report on all the people in Baton Rouge already buying homes there.) Poor Barbara - no one is safe from the Dem's slime machine.
DUers and Leftist Keith Olberman is already spinning this
Why is it that whenever anyone on the right has the nerve to speak the unblunted truth, the left turns it into a weapon? The truth might hurt, but it's more helpful than a comforting lie.
I agree, but by the time the left is through with tearing this apart it will sound like the Diaspora.
probably indicating that living in an arena is better than government housing in NO. Oops.
They probably will distort it, but many of the evacuated folks have said as much themselves - they're glad to get away from their old lives, want to start over, and they're confident the future is going to be better for them.
I know what she means, but this is not going to be interpreted well at all.
Only because everyones not moved there yet.
