ABC Poll: Bush not taking brunt of criticism
ABC NEWS ^ | 9/5/05 | GARY LANGER

Sept. 4, 2005 — Americans are broadly critical of government preparedness in the Hurricane Katrina disaster — but far fewer take George W. Bush personally to task for the problems, and public anger about the response is less widespread than some critics would suggest.

Full Coverage: Katrina The Polling Unit: Archives

In an event that clearly has gripped the nation — 91 percent of Americans are paying close attention — hopefulness far outweighs discontent about the slow-starting rescue. And as in so many politically charged issues in this country, partisanship holds great sway in views of the president's performance.

The most critical views cross jurisdictions: Two-thirds in this ABC News/Washington Post poll say the federal government should have been better prepared to deal with a storm this size, and three-quarters say state and local governments in the affected areas likewise were insufficiently prepared.

"Chrissakes (sorry), could they just once give this kind of polling a break for a while?"

Hey, polling is much more important than disaster relief. I got disgusted with this story when the "blame Bush" crowd started acting up. Before then it was compelling and tragic. Now it's just the same old same old.

And most Americans they polled probably have not heard yet about the hundreds of wasted school and city buses that were supposed to be used to evac the poor according to the state evac plan.

"The president's suggestion that the size of this storm caught all by surprise just doesn't get it. His administration was 48 hours late sending in the National Guard and poor Americans got raped and killed because of those mistakes."

I'm so sick of all of the spin out of tragedy. If any of you have ever worked a disaster you could tell that something was broken and it most likely wasn't broken at a Federal level. Now it appears that the Governor tried to do things backwards. Without reports being done on a local level to State and then State reporting to the Federal officials things will not work. The flow of information works the other way too. Once an order of an emergency is declared reports and directives are passed along in that order. LA dropped the ball. If you don't pass the ball to the Feds the game is over.

Where I was this weekend, the main reading material available was the NYT, and their "me, too" little brother The Boss-town Glob".

I couldn't believe the constant bashing the Times was giving Bush. And I heard at least one other person comment about the terrible slant the Times had on the whole disaster.

Maybe Americans have a hard time swallowing that the President is responsible for a hurricane. He didn't get the blame last year, when Florida got hit four times.

I looking at this a little different...While the NO and LA gov. the Dem and the MSM want to blame this on Bush and FEMA the truth is the failed is with the NO an LA gov.

The thing is should Bush be contend to not take the hit and just lay low?

I say no he has to fix what fail and that means taking the political fight to the NO an LA gov to get them to fix there failer and risk them fighting back and trying to stick the blame on him

The liberal establishment and their propaganda arm in the MSM, have reached new a low in gutter politics. The immediate aftermath of hurricane Katrina was no time to fingerpoint. This poll says, 44% blame Bush and 55% don't blame the President. Blame him for what? 46% approve and 47% disapprove of the Bush`s response. Just what did 47% of Americans expect the President to do?

44% still said "blame Bush." That's a ridiculously high number.

when you consider it's an ABC poll it's rather low..LOL

looks like an ABC poll writer just lost his/her job, didn't quite phrase it right for the right response

"44% still said "blame Bush." That's a ridiculously high number"

Not when you consider that upwards of 80% of liberals and democrats disapprove of the president, and 90% of republicans approve.

Sounds about right, which should make the collective heads of the MSM explode because they are apparently still mired in the minority after last year's embarrassing electoral defeat.

The Leftists--including their spokespersons in the "Mainstream Newsmedia" (a.k.a. The Democrat Propaganda Machine) have been struggling for something that has traction since President Bush was elected.

They were elated over the New Orleans hurricaine disaster; they thought it perfect for a game of "Now I've Got You, You S.O.B."

Sorry, Jackasses. Wrong again!

They are so pathetic. If they were not such a disgusting bunch of morons you could almost feel sorry for them.

CNN, PMSNBC will both hold a meeting to tell their staff to try harder

CNN will probably tell Anderson Cooper* to throw in a few more "You-all's" while he's talking to the victims of Katrina like he did the other night.

*Son of heiress Gloria Vanderbilt

I though Anderson wasn't too bad until I saw him at work the other night with Christiane Amanpour. They slashed at Bush every way they knew how.

Who said we've become too civilized to perform human sacrifices anymore?

I was at DU this morning for a good laugh and saw their reaction to these poll results..they insist the MSM has propped Bush way up and his poll numbers are actually in the 20-30% range..
