Tensions color Bush, Blanco meeting

Gov. Kathleen Blanco canceled a scheduled trip Monday to visit Louisiana evacuees in Houston shelters to stay in Baton Rouge to meet with President Bush. Blanco Communications Director Bob Mann said the governor did not learn about the Bush visit until early Monday morning. “We had no idea the president was coming,” Mann said.

Tension between the Blanco and Bush administrations has surfaced in recent days as state and federal officials try to coordinate recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

The Blanco administration clearly wanted to express their irritation with the communication about the president's trip. Blanco officials said they had heard that the president might make a visit and had been trying to get details.

As of late Sunday night, FEMA officials told Blanco that the president was not planning a visit, Mann said. One key point of coordination is the military effort to restore order and begin rebuilding infrastructure.

As of Monday morning, the National Guard from Louisiana and other states had deployed 13,268 troops in the 13 parish area affected by the storm, Louisiana National Guard spokesman Pete Schneider said. In route are 7,845 more National Guardsmen, so that by Tuesday morning 21,113 guardsmen will be in Louisiana.

Parallel to that effort, the regular Army 82nd Airborne and 1st Cavalry divisions are sending in 7,000 troops to Louisiana to arrive in the next couple of days.

"The LA officials will never stop phrasing their sentences in accusatory terms against the administration."

Because they know they are in deep do-do.

I was just watching Blanco standing next to President Bush while he was addressing the emergency responders. He's talking and she's shaking her head...doing a Hillary Clinton. I guess she likes to hear the mothballs in her head rattle.

“We had no idea the president was coming,” Mann said.

This is about as ridiculous as FEMA Director Brown's statement that he didn't know people were at the Convention Center.

As of late Sunday night, FEMA officials told Blanco that the president was not planning a visit...

Another silly slap at FEMA, too. Of course she knew he was coming. If she didn't, she ought to fire her communications director. But... of course she knew he was coming.

The Democrat Oligarchy has now focused on FEMA, hiring that criminal Jamie Lee Whitt and reading off the talking points memo from the DNA and Hillary Clinton's offices.

They can't seriously want a Katrina Commission. The facts about the timeline would set the Democrats in LA back twenty five years.

"Because they know they are in deep do-do."

Exactly. And the more guilty they are, the louder they squeal (or cry).

“We had no idea the president was coming,” Mann said.

REALLY??
But it was public knowledge announced a few days ago!

If they are so out of touch with the President's arrival I shudder how they can manage ANYTHING at all - much less a crisis of this magnitude.

Yes, no one is without blame here, but the State and Locals are far and away the worst culprits. No evac announcement, not implementing plans, police force disintegrates, crying and screaming on TV. The Feds are screwed up, but at least they do not cry on TV .....

Where did you get that info? Can you provide the link?

I saw a press conference at 11 AM with he NOPD and the spokesperson said they would be having a press conference each morning at 11.

Didn't sound to me like any power had been ceded?

They are throwing everything they can at Bush right now, but it is not going to stick.

Before too long, it will come out that Bush offered Blanco significant federal resources before this thing became a nightmare, and she told him she needed 24 hours to think about it.

While she was hiring an outside consultant to make her decisions for her, the situation in New Orleans went to nine kinds of hell.

Nagin missed his only real chance to do something by not evacuating more people before the hurricane hit -- that was a major failure, but he has been doing pretty well since then. After the hurricane hit, all of his infrastructure was gone: all communications, all utilities, most of the other city officials, and one-third of the police force.

As soon as Blanco realized it was time for the children to go to bed and the adults to take over, Bush sent in Honore and the National Guard and straightened everything out.

That's the story. They'll try to spin it, but at the end of the day, the facts are what the facts are.

Maybe Fema could shake loose a couple of bucks more and put Blanko up in a los Vegas hotel with her infamous police force. I wonder if Fema will pay for the escort services.

Meanwhile, Mary Landrieu holds another tear-jerking press conference:

"If President Bush says my little brother, the Lieutenant governor of Louisiana, didn't help Governor Blanco enough, I'll punch him square in the jaw, I swear to God. Literally."

>"Clinton's folks are advising Blanco, it is clear. She is a puppet, Bush will nicely move her aside."

A few FRiends said my tinfoil was wrapped a little too tight, but the links are starting to show through the spin cycle.

Think about it, Mayor denies he has authority to declare an evac order.
Why?
Was he denied the authority by someone with more authority?
Possibly.
The Gov is next up the chain of command.

Why did the Gov delay the evac order?
Who denied her the authority to give the evac order?
Next up the chain is Senator Mary L.

Sen Mary L. was on TV the day of Katrina, front and center to blame GWB
for the use of troops in Iraq being responsible for greivous injury to Dim voters.
Who could coerce Mary L. to delay the evac order? The shadow of the shrew is all over this farce of "responsible" govenment of the people. It may seem a bit convoluted, but it has motive (Blame W).
The only other explantion is TOTAL INCOMPETANCE in which case the Bunko Blancos should step aside
and let the competant take charge to prevent any more loss of life, and property!

The again maybe both incompetance and treason!

Several people have pointed out that the Senior Senator has no legal controlling authoritytm (AlGee) over the La Gov. But allah the rats take marching orders from the DNC. Did you catch the ventriloquist act Mary L pulled on the Gov? Oh yeah Mary L's dad was a former mayor of NO (his fingerprints are all over the levee and pump situations), and her brother is the current LG.

"Hmm, Blanco is getting the treatment, Bush wants to know what she is doing to fix the situation."

The states are soverign and Blanco, be she an R or a D owes Bush no explanation nor does he have any authority over her or any other governor.

I bristle at the thought of the federal government imposing its will on any state for any reason.

Communication break down???

Hey Blanco, you may want to use that communication system you set up with the three billion dollar Homeland Security grant.

What's that? No communication system?

Where's our three billion we sent through taxes and airline ticket surcharges?

It's been all over the news for two days. Poor communication seems to run (conveniently) rampant in the Blank-O camp.
