New Orleans Police Chief Advises Residents To Flee
Breaking News.ie ^ | 9/5/05

Posted on 09/05/2005 11:01:16 AM PDT by areafiftyone

The Chief of Police in New Orleans has said the city has been destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

Almost nobody remains in the flooded area.

Edwin Compass denied that the few remaining survivors are being forced to leave, but said there is no reason to stay in New Orleans.

“There are no jobs, there are no homes to go to, no hotels to go to-there is absolutely nothing here.

"We advise people that this city has been destroyed. It has completely been destroyed. We try to direct them to get out of town so that they can get with family members in other parts of the country or other parts of the state that will benefit them more,” he said.

**SIGH** Better late than never huh? Isn't this what your Mayor "Shirley Trembles" Nagin and Governor "Incompetant" Blanco were supposed to do when Bush ordered a "MANDATORY EVACUATION" BEFORE the storm hit?

Well, a great many of his police force seem to have followed that advice.

NO WONDER New Orleans was recently voted the most dangerous city in the U.S. with incompetant people running it!

I haven't heard that the Mandatory Evac. was no longer in effect. In fact, I thought I heard that everyone is supposed to leave due to health hazards.

Mandatory evacuation was Ordered BEFORE the hurrican struck by Bush and the Mayor did not use those buses that were available to him. In FACT in a PBS interview he assumed that 80% of the population in New Orleans had moved to higher ground. WHERE WAS this MASS EXODUS out of New Orleans and how did those poor people who have no cars leave? Answer: The Mayor was delusional at the time and in denial!

He could use the numerous school buses to take them out of town but, darn they were left in neat rows to flooded and destroyed. Bush is gonna hear bout this, such negligence. He should have seen to their safety.

Doesn't MANDATORY mean you have no choice? Yet I am still seeing rescuers being rebuffed by holdouts, on TV? What craziness. They need to make these people sign waivers... since there are a ton of lawyers waiting in the wings wanting to sue the gov't for negligence.

Gee it seems like the NO an LA governments stayed true to the roots and used a French crisis management model..

ie run around total useless, surrender and run away at the first shot, then sit on you ass and wait on the US government all the while bitching that it ever one else's fault

However- He also told anyone with a boat, that they could come in and look for stranded residents on their own.
He asked that they report to the volunteer HQ down by the Riverwalk.
I would imagine creative looters will be stealing boats first- as the Police Chief has just given them permission to be trolling through neighborhoods.

Are you suggesting that the President announce that he is taking over the operations of a state and a major city in that state?
He is prohibited from doing just such a thing by the Disaster Relief Act. No President should be able to do what you propose.

"After everybody else is gone, we will supply all the remaining looters with a school bus and a "Get out of jail/NO free" card."

U.S. with incompetant people running it!

It runs much deeper than incompetence, many are corrupt and criminals.

I'll bet the TV, stereo and electronics departments are picked cleaner than the food and comestibles.
