Justices pay tribute to Rehnquist (all except Souter, who refuses to issue statement)

(CNN) -- The Supreme Court released statements by seven Supreme Court justices who paid tribute to Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, who died Saturday. A statement from Justice David Souter is not expected, the court said.

Justice John Paul Stevens:

"William Rehnquist's independent, impartial and dedicated leadership of the Supreme Court has been an inspiration to those of us privileged to serve with him -- and to the entire nation as well. Charles Evans Hughes, a great chief justice whom he particularly admired, would have been proud of the example he set as the leader of the court.

"He was truly the first among equals in discharging his judicial duties in a prompt, scholarly and fair manner. He was a good friend, maintaining his sense of humor and proportion throughout the difficult period that marked his most recent service. We shall miss him."

i just wish to rid conservatives of the label by the MSM and the left as being bigots...

OK, but you won't accomplish much against militant homosexuals by simply "bending over" ;-)

Cheers!

I concur. History will show this to be one of the toughest, most determined Presidents in history.

People often mistake his pragmatism for wavering and weakness.

What is wrong with you?

thats a stupid question that is an attack on his personal life....comments like that belong on a democratic site, as only they sink that low

I completely agree with you, now and then someone from our team comes out so extreme (and stupid), it nauseates me.....

Did you see what Ginsburg said?

It was an amazing and wonderful tribute to Chief Rehnquist, Judge Ginsburg demonstrated grace and nobility, so much more than Souter, despite him being described by Oyez as "a man of unusual and peculiar sensibilities". I guess he lost the ability of being sensible at the death of a coworker, hence his deafening silence.

You know, despite Ginsburg being a Democrat, I always liked her, to me she always seemed like a person with integrity, morals and grace and her tribute is confirming it.

What is wrong with you?

Toxic nerve and muscle damage. Polymyalgia rheumatica. GERD. CFS. Detached vitreous bilaterally.

Still I manage to do a few socially useful things.

Thanks for asking.

Cute but not cute enough. Cut down on the NSAIDs.

I can't take NSAID's. They give me bleeding ulcers, and they took VIOXX off the market.

Maybe not cute enough, but it amused me. ;-)

Take care.

Cheers!
Patty

Ditto to you the same question I asked your freshly minted "buddy" up thread: who're you trying to kid?

Not really fooling anyone worth fooling around here, believe it or not...

Perhaps Justice Souter's boyfriend will issue a statement for both of them.

John Sununu ought to have been exiled to a leper colony for inflicting Souter on the nation. Sununu told Bush #41 that Souter was a reliable CONSERVATIVE! That was the most colosal blunders since Nixon appointed Earl Warren as C J.
