HOUSTON Houston police and other law officers securing hurricane evacuee shelters around Texas have high visibility to keep the peace.
Most of the Louisiana refugees are in the Houston Astrodome and nearby facilities.
Overnight, Houston police reported the arrest of 10 evacuees.
Capt. John Anderson says nine were cited for minor drug offenses, while one was arrested for an assault that was not sexual. Anderson says that's pretty mild for a "city" of 25,000.
In Dallas, about 100 law enforcement officials were at the Dallas Convention Center and another 50 at Reunion Arena. The Texas National Guard is served as a backup.
In San Antonio, military police welcomed refugees after they landed at Lackland Air Force Base.
So did drug sniffing dogs, along with city police at the shelter.
Hm, I wonder what that scanner feed is pulling then, general HPD traffic?
That said, I think this pretty much invalidates the idea that the Astrodome is degrading that Peach seems to be promoting.
Do any of you remember the freeper who talked about the Houston shelters last night? Her husband won't let her work there.
