When airlines load planes, who do they let on first, women, children and people who need assistance. Those busses could have been used on Friday to get the elderly out of there before the traffic snarlups began. Could everyone have been saved? No, but at least some, especially the most vulnerable could have.
All lanes, I repeat all lanes, were opened...finally...and...the buses could've...should've...rolled.
The traffic jam was because they did not implement contraflow (make both sides of the highway flow only one way).
If they had implemented contraflow, the traffic jams would have been almost nonexistent.
Sunday evening the traffic was flowing pretty well. I was surprised at how few were on theat 4 lane after it was opened up to go just one way.
I don't think so, since not one person ever turned a key in the ignition in one of them
If the schoolbuses had been deployed when evacuation was ordered, they would have been able to pick up those who were unable to evacuate and, at the very least, get them to higher gtound in the city or to the Dome or convention center. They did not have to be taken out of the city if traffic was jammed. Many, many drowned. In nursing homes, hospices, attics, and many in their beds because the city did not deploy the buses. Better to be safe in a traffic jam on high gtound, than dead.
