This was outside by the barricades. This was told to my husband. I will try to find out more information tomorrow.
The men really needed to share with other men. The women opened up early and there were more female workers the first day. The men were holding back their stories. Today, there were more guys from the churches and they began opening up. When a strong man can be there to support another man, it is a beautiful thing.
I just had this feeling in my heart, and you are proving it true.
Those who had no hope, no change, no love....this tragedy is giving them a whole new life. A chance to start all over from scratch and do things differently.
I really needed to read that today. Thank you.
Well California has already taken millions of refugees from Mexico, and as Mexico's Presidente Fox said they are doing the jobs even blacks won't do so I guess LA feels they don't need any more refugees.
are they really "refugees" from mexico,,,i thought they were *illegal* immigrants
Thanks... I have Flash installed. For some reason the link from the news site wasn't working, but yours does.
It looks as if Wal-Mart has already contributed.

Oh, please do!!!
uh, what is an underwear thread?
lol
story of my life
It's going to get worse, I'm afraid. Trust me on that.
You might want to think about getting some breath masks...
Thanks for that; I'm proud of you.
Well, I live on a Hog Farm, so I didn't really think it was going to be possible for me to smell anything out of the ordinary here.
But I thought I'd check, just for the heck of it. There is a noticable UNUSUAL odor out there. And it isn't pigs.
I'm 45 miles SW of Iowa City.
"when you here the word, refugee, what is the first thing that comes to mind?"
Someone who leaves a geographical region due to some catastrophe, is homeless, and probably won't be returning. Refugee sounds so "permanent" to me. "Evacuees" are more like the folks on the North Shore who will be coming back in the next week or so. I never thought of refugee as having a political denotation until I looked it up recently.
When you complimented myprecious for posting the story about the hurricane people...it struck me that if there were people in Iraq to tell us the same types of stories...
we might be hearing of similar circumstances...of helping people have a chance at a new start...a fresh start with opportunities they might not have had.
I could see the similiarities, if there were people sending those stories home where we could read them.
That sounds suspiciously like a teenager who's had a house party who's been told that his parents are going to be home tomorrow and that he has no chance to hide what he's been doing....
The adults are coming. Some are already there.
Anyone who thinks that an investigation of this matter will show that the failure was with the state or local government in failing to request Federal involvement needs to read DHS' National Response Plan. I don't think you'll be pleased by what you find. It is very clear that DHS had the authority to roll FEMA into this on its own accord. And that the President had the right to send them in.
I read it to see what LA and NO failed to do. And the ability of the Feds to bypass those old 'standard' procedures is clearly set forth. I hope we don't see the Administration trying to push the 'we weren't asked' line, because they'll get crucified with their own document if they do.
The local Salvation Army and thrift stores are opening up their racks for theses people. It is amazing at the generosity. The evacuees are astonished at the response. I am still looking for maternity wear for a few. One lady is due any day now.
Isn't it strange that mostly Red states have beared the brunt of the refugees? Is it a geographic thing? The only blue state I have heard of taking refugees was Mass and they have Mitt Romney. Texas, Arkansas, Tennesse, Kentucky, Ohio, Idaho, Iowa, Arizona, New Mexico all accepting refugees too.
Blue states? Blues State? Do you care...
I could do like Kanye West and make an irrational statement something to the effect that Blue States don't care about poor people.
Southern Baptists will go a long way to deliver a covered dish, but that is out of my range. :^)
