U.S. commercial air carriers continue transporting tens of thousands of evacuees from the New Orleans airport to destinations throughout the nation.

Rooftop air rescue efforts continue. One rescue chopper crashed late today. Crew members are reported safe. Gunmen who fired upon bridge repair contractors were killed by law enforcement.

To date, an estimated 70 countries and U.S. businesses have pledged hundreds of millions of dollars, supplies, food and equipment to assist the United States' efforts in Katrina's aftermath. Lt. General Honore described the damage to Mississippi today, "all infrastructure south of Jackson, MS is either damaged or destroyed." Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice visited the devastated areas, and attended Sunday church services in Mobile, Alabama.

Elsewhere, Sean Penn's rescue boat, sans plug and full of his personal entourage, reportedly sank during launch in New Orleans. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) threatened to punch President Bush, and Jefferson Parish President Broussard decried that the bureaucracy of FEMA has committed murder.

Streaming Video:

All information is subject to change. Many stations are relying on their corporate parents to configure and maintain Internet streaming. Because of the intense interest in the feeds, they may be unavailable at times because of network congestion or a problem feeding the video to the streaming servers.

WWL-TV New Orleans - WWL-TV is operating from studios at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. CBS has a relay during the morning and afternoon. When available, use the CBS relay first as they have greater streaming capacity. They have a secondary stream from Yahoo. WWL-TV is also offering a special low-bandwidth audio-only stream for dial-up users.

WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

WFAA-TV Dallas, TX - WFAA-TV is here because Dallas is one of the evacuation cities.

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM (Clear Channel & Entercom) who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Gulf Coast Storm Network (Clear Channel Radio) - Clear Channel offers radio listeners across the gulf coast access to a simulcast emergency radio service. This service seems primarily focused on Alabama and Mississippi, but does cover Louisiana to some degree.

Thank you : ) I do want to correct a couple of things, though. After I posted, I read that the generator was in the basement and failed. There's also a carbon monoxide problem with running generators in enclosed spaces. There must have been a way to have several generators running in tandem on the upper floors. I have never used a generator, so I don't know the logistics of that, but I do know someone would figure it out.

Then there was the toilet situation. There was a big rock concert called Cal Jam II, held at the old Ontario Motor Speedway, back in '78. It was a couple of days long, I don't remember how many people were there, but let me tell you about overflowing porta-potties. The sludge sucked the sandals right off my feet, and I told my best friend to get everyone because we need to leave. We hosed our feet down at the closest gas station. The smell sobered me up instantly.

The difference is that we chose to be there. Can you imagine being pregnant, having small kids, or being elderly, and have to deal with that? We were outside too, not stuck in a building with no cool air. I forgot all about Cal Jam, until I read some of the Super Dome accounts.

I know we can't depend on government, but this is ridiculous.

That place stunk two years ago when I went to the SEC Tournament. It's bathrooms were completely outdated except for the club or above level.
It's a shame I've seen some really good basketball and football in that place, great memories but just looking at the outside of the place it ought to be bulldozed.

In fact, I would advise doubling that number of LE officers. :)

You'll love to hear this, Pirro just proposed the suspension of the federal gas tax as part of her platform. She beat Hillary to the punch! LOL, out-hillary hillary indeed.

Until the supply problems are fixed to the point that stations consistently have gas, I don't see how reducing the federal gas tax would help anything. If producers are already producing as much as they can, the consumer price will be set by the quantity of gas produced and the consumer demand curve. The only question is how much of that money will go to suppliers and how much to the government.

Once things have somewhat stabilized to the point that producers could increase quantity to meet the increased consumer demand that would result from a lower price, then reducing the gas tax might have a useful effect on consumer prices. But I don't know that we're there yet.

< Maybe he should have looked up and seen some of the 300 helicopters Gen Honore metnioned earlier. >

He mentioned that yesterday. He was upset about all the helicopters. He said there needed to be more boats. "The people are in the water, down here", was close to what he said. He said something about the copters no getting enough people.

I stewed all day about whether to share it on here. I did tell him that I don't know hurricanes, but do know earthquakes that it's everyone for themselves for at least 5 days and not to count on the government to come swooping in to save me.

8:10 P.M. - Rev. Jesse Jackson: There must be a moratorium made on banks/businesses foreclosing on home owners who’ve missed payments because of Hurricane Katrina. The federal government should put a freeze on all foreclosures for the time being.

8:08 P.M. - Jackson: There is a surplus of water and diapers, what we need are mobile homes.

8:06 P.M. - Jackson: Venezuela offered help, but was turned away.

8:05 P.M. - Jackson: Sending people away to Utah, Montana and Minnesota makes no sense. Send them to local military facilities that are not in use, and bringing mobile homes in for people to stay in. Cleo (Fields) is talking about opening up state parks that have cabins and living facilities for evacuees. Louisianans should be living in Louisiana.

FEMA did not have a plan for a massive rescue or of receiving of evacuees. Said Homeland Security turned away the American Red Cross by saying it was too dangerous.

7:42 P.M. - Congressman Bobby Jindal: People who want to volunteer for search and rescue operations, police from outside the state who want to help, all should be able to come to New Orleans without fear of wading through bureaucratic red tape. My constitutients don't care who brings them food and water, or take them to safety, just help these people.

On rebuilding the city: Shame on us if we strive to rebuild the same city -- education and health care wise, etc. We should use this opportunity to construct a better New Orleans. Let's use these resources which can only help to contribute to this greater goal. We need to maintain our history while building for the future.

7:42 P.M. - Jindal: Don't just tell people what they want to hear, be honest with them and let them know that you have a plan for the future. The people don't expect to have all their problems solved overnight, but they expect a plan.

7:37 P.M. - New Orleans Saints head coach Jim Haslett during Monday's press conference:

Q: There ae published reports coming out of Louisiana that the team may never return to New Orleans again. How would you react to that?

Haslett: "I don't know where they would get those reports and I don't think they are true. I think that is the last thing on anybodies mind right now. If somebody would say that obviously they do not have a good handle on what they are talking about so I don't think that is true by any means whatsoever. I don't think it is on anyone's mind and that is something that is going to have to be determined after the season is over. Right now we have four months of football and hopefully we can get though those and get into the playoffs and then figure out where we are going to live. Hopefully it is back where we came from."

Q: Do you have a preference for your home games between San Antonio and Baton Rouge?

Haslett: "I would like to have them here because we are practicing here but I think we owe it to the fans of New Orleans, the Gulf Coast, all the people in Baton Rouge, all the way up to Lafayette and Shreveport. We have season ticket holders all over the Gulf Coast not just New Orleans. I think we owe it to the state and to the region to play a couple games back in Baton Rouge, if we can."

7:30 P.M. - Dr. Tim Ryan, UNO Chancellor: The city has to convince people that the levee has been corrected before people will come back to the city. Home security is a major issue. The real estate market will greatly depend upon the number of people willing to stay in town or move back from outside the state.

7:25 P.M. - Ryan: Leadership, at all levels, will be critical in making sure that the money is distributed properly, and that people/businesses are not scammed.

7:20 P.M. - Ryan : I don't care what the Speaker of the House says, this is a great city. New Orleans is a treasure.

7:17 P.M. - Ryan: The city will see an economic boom as tens of billions of dollars pour into town from all levels: FEMA, the federal government, the corporations, local and private money. Small business will be a concern.

Bubba is going to marvel at how his own admin worked right up to the end planning to improve the levee system. When Clintoon left office, everyone on the planet dropped the ball. I'm taking bets on this one..

You'll win.

I heard him this morning during a presser stating that he had started research to see how much and what they needed to redo the levee situation. He believed those directions weren't followed after leaving office.

He also took a shot at Bush stating he's sure there will be a commission like the 9-11 commission to investigate Katrina later.

AND he repeatedly mentioned he has a plan to redo FEMA and would be glad to show his solutions to anybody interested later.

The above isn't his exact wording, but is the gist of it. I was listening on the radio; therefore was unable to see 41's face while Clinton was pontificating. It didn't seem like 30 minutes later that PIAPS came out and called for a 9-11 Commission. How much longer until she announces HER new plan for FEMA?
