U.S. commercial air carriers continue transporting tens of thousands of evacuees from the New Orleans airport to destinations throughout the nation.

Rooftop air rescue efforts continue. One rescue chopper crashed late today. Crew members are reported safe. Gunmen who fired upon bridge repair contractors were killed by law enforcement.

To date, an estimated 70 countries and U.S. businesses have pledged hundreds of millions of dollars, supplies, food and equipment to assist the United States' efforts in Katrina's aftermath. Lt. General Honore described the damage to Mississippi today, "all infrastructure south of Jackson, MS is either damaged or destroyed." Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice visited the devastated areas, and attended Sunday church services in Mobile, Alabama.

Elsewhere, Sean Penn's rescue boat, sans plug and full of his personal entourage, reportedly sank during launch in New Orleans. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) threatened to punch President Bush, and Jefferson Parish President Broussard decried that the bureaucracy of FEMA has committed murder.

Streaming Video:

All information is subject to change. Many stations are relying on their corporate parents to configure and maintain Internet streaming. Because of the intense interest in the feeds, they may be unavailable at times because of network congestion or a problem feeding the video to the streaming servers.

WWL-TV New Orleans - WWL-TV is operating from studios at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. CBS has a relay during the morning and afternoon. When available, use the CBS relay first as they have greater streaming capacity. They have a secondary stream from Yahoo. WWL-TV is also offering a special low-bandwidth audio-only stream for dial-up users.

WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

WFAA-TV Dallas, TX - WFAA-TV is here because Dallas is one of the evacuation cities.

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM (Clear Channel & Entercom) who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Gulf Coast Storm Network (Clear Channel Radio) - Clear Channel offers radio listeners across the gulf coast access to a simulcast emergency radio service. This service seems primarily focused on Alabama and Mississippi, but does cover Louisiana to some degree.

Bush's only mistake is he gave the Gov of LA 24 hours to make a decision. But what was he supposed to do? Break the law?

If you can find a map showing the Parish boundaries, you'll understand.

Jefferson Parish crosses the Mississippi River. The portion "east" of the river flooded, along with the rest of downtown New Orleans, from a breach on the other side of the 17th Canal. The portion of Jefferson Parish "west" of the river fared much better.

You just watch. She's going to frame EVERY issue in the future when it comes to tax cuts, getting rid of the Estate Tax, etc., as hurting the people of New Orleans.

WWL

Updates as they come in on Katrina

08:14 PM CDT on Monday, September 5, 2005
Tom Planchet

8:10 P.M. - Rev. Jesse Jackson: There must be a moratorium made on banks/businesses foreclosing on home owners who’ve missed payments because of Hurricane Katrina. The federal government should put a freeze on all foreclosures for the time being.

8:08 P.M. - Jackson: There is a surplus of water and diapers, what we need are mobile homes.

8:06 P.M. - Jackson: Venezuela offered help, but was turned away.

8:05 P.M. - Jackson: Sending people away to Utah, Montana and Minnesota makes no sense. Send them to local military facilities that are not in use, and bringing mobile homes in for people to stay in. Cleo (Fields) is talking about opening up state parks that have cabins and living facilities for evacuees. Louisianans should be living in Louisiana.

FEMA did not have a plan for a massive rescue or of receiving of evacuees. Said Homeland Security turned away the American Red Cross by saying it was too dangerous.

7:42 P.M. - Congressman Bobby Jindal: People who want to volunteer for search and rescue operations, police from outside the state who want to help, all should be able to come to New Orleans without fear of wading through bureaucratic red tape. My constitutients don't care who brings them food and water, or take them to safety, just help these people.

On rebuilding the city: Shame on us if we strive to rebuild the same city -- education and health care wise, etc. We should use this opportunity to construct a better New Orleans. Let's use these resources which can only help to contribute to this greater goal. We need to maintain our history while building for the future.

7:42 P.M. - Jindal: Don't just tell people what they want to hear, be honest with them and let them know that you have a plan for the future. The people don't expect to have all their problems solved overnight, but they expect a plan.

Myself and you should see some of the things I've seen lately. Good grief!

Another thing I'm tired of is the refrain "these people have lost everything." Bet you alot of them didn't have anything to begin with. I might not know much but I know street people when I see them!

Guess Sean Penn was too busy going on about accountability to notice it was being done.

I mean really what's the priority here? Searching house to house or rescue?

Note to Media: -- When you start interviewing Sean Penn, it's time to pull back on the 24/7 coverage.
