U.S. commercial air carriers continue transporting tens of thousands of evacuees from the New Orleans airport to destinations throughout the nation.

Rooftop air rescue efforts continue. One rescue chopper crashed late today. Crew members are reported safe. Gunmen who fired upon bridge repair contractors were killed by law enforcement.

To date, an estimated 70 countries and U.S. businesses have pledged hundreds of millions of dollars, supplies, food and equipment to assist the United States' efforts in Katrina's aftermath. Lt. General Honore described the damage to Mississippi today, "all infrastructure south of Jackson, MS is either damaged or destroyed." Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice visited the devastated areas, and attended Sunday church services in Mobile, Alabama.

Elsewhere, Sean Penn's rescue boat, sans plug and full of his personal entourage, reportedly sank during launch in New Orleans. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) threatened to punch President Bush, and Jefferson Parish President Broussard decried that the bureaucracy of FEMA has committed murder.

Streaming Video:

All information is subject to change. Many stations are relying on their corporate parents to configure and maintain Internet streaming. Because of the intense interest in the feeds, they may be unavailable at times because of network congestion or a problem feeding the video to the streaming servers.

WWL-TV New Orleans - WWL-TV is operating from studios at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. CBS has a relay during the morning and afternoon. When available, use the CBS relay first as they have greater streaming capacity. They have a secondary stream from Yahoo. WWL-TV is also offering a special low-bandwidth audio-only stream for dial-up users.

WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

WFAA-TV Dallas, TX - WFAA-TV is here because Dallas is one of the evacuation cities.

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM (Clear Channel & Entercom) who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Gulf Coast Storm Network (Clear Channel Radio) - Clear Channel offers radio listeners across the gulf coast access to a simulcast emergency radio service. This service seems primarily focused on Alabama and Mississippi, but does cover Louisiana to some degree.

You know, I heard last night that John Travolta was supposed to go to LA to "inspect" the place.

He has his own airplanes...so maybe they want to stop celebrity flights into the local airports so that IMPORTANT flights can come and go!

Best quote of the week:

“This is a disaster,” says Lt. Gen. Russel Honore. “This isn't something somebody can control. We ain't stuck on stupid.”

Dunno. Can come up with no fun reason for a no-fly zone now. All we can do is keep watching.

Jeffers - why do you think this no fly zone has been implemented until 10:00 p.m.?

HPD says otherwise - no rapes - and given the amount of security at the shelters, I would be very surprised. There have been six *attempted* rapes, but no successful (!) ones.

Maybe it's so the press doesn't take pictures of bodies.

What other thoughts do you have? We're all speculating and we won't think you're nuts. Promise :-)

Well said! Maybe some of us should send Newtie a little email telling him that he just lost our vote in 2008 - if he keeps this up, he can forget running as NO ONE will vote for him, except perhaps a couple of moderates who don't know better.

Bobby and Vitters may need to go to the woodshed, too, they're disgusting.

Who is HPD?

They are misinformed.

We have seen interviews with people leaving the shelters who said that children and women were raped. Some of the stories told to relief workers and recounted here were quite detailed.

All of the reporters on the ground in NO on FNC have discussed the fact that children, young girls and women have been raped.

Well, Aaron Broussard demanded to let the people in to see their destroyed homes.

Generator fumes kill one, sicken six

Monday, 3:37 p.m.

By Matt Scallan
Staff writer

One man died and six other people were severely poisoned with carbon monoxide from running an electricity generator inside a Harvey home, Jefferson Parish officials said Monday.

The identities of the victims were not available. The survivors were taken to West Jefferson Medical Center.

Robert Wilson, assistant chief of the Marrero-Ragusa Volunteer Fire Department, said he saw four generators in the home at 2316 Alex Korman Blvd., in the Woodmere subdivision.

Wilson said dead man was in his 50s and, judging from the condition of the body, might have died as early as Friday. Because carbon monoxide poisoning impairs mental functions, he said, the other occupants of the house might not have realized that the man was dead.

Deano Bonano, deputy chief administrative assistant to Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard, said sheriff's deputies originally thought that all seven people in the home were dead. But emergency medical technicians found signs of life and sent the six survivors to the hospital.

Parish officials say the incident was the latest of several deaths caused by carbon monoxide poisoning. Portable generators should never be placed inside a home or an enclosed area, they said.

Right thinking Americans are disgusted at political hacks that instead of joining together to help, sell out the President or try to take him down on the backs of the dead. I think we should declare the Beltway a national disaster area and insist these politicos spend 99% of their time in their own precincts and states. They don't need to be in Washington to communicate anymore. They need to communicate with US.
