U.S. commercial air carriers continue transporting tens of thousands of evacuees from the New Orleans airport to destinations throughout the nation.

Rooftop air rescue efforts continue. One rescue chopper crashed late today. Crew members are reported safe. Gunmen who fired upon bridge repair contractors were killed by law enforcement.

To date, an estimated 70 countries and U.S. businesses have pledged hundreds of millions of dollars, supplies, food and equipment to assist the United States' efforts in Katrina's aftermath. Lt. General Honore described the damage to Mississippi today, "all infrastructure south of Jackson, MS is either damaged or destroyed." Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice visited the devastated areas, and attended Sunday church services in Mobile, Alabama.

Elsewhere, Sean Penn's rescue boat, sans plug and full of his personal entourage, reportedly sank during launch in New Orleans. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) threatened to punch President Bush, and Jefferson Parish President Broussard decried that the bureaucracy of FEMA has committed murder.

Streaming Video:

All information is subject to change. Many stations are relying on their corporate parents to configure and maintain Internet streaming. Because of the intense interest in the feeds, they may be unavailable at times because of network congestion or a problem feeding the video to the streaming servers.

WWL-TV New Orleans - WWL-TV is operating from studios at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. CBS has a relay during the morning and afternoon. When available, use the CBS relay first as they have greater streaming capacity. They have a secondary stream from Yahoo. WWL-TV is also offering a special low-bandwidth audio-only stream for dial-up users.

WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

WFAA-TV Dallas, TX - WFAA-TV is here because Dallas is one of the evacuation cities.

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM (Clear Channel & Entercom) who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Gulf Coast Storm Network (Clear Channel Radio) - Clear Channel offers radio listeners across the gulf coast access to a simulcast emergency radio service. This service seems primarily focused on Alabama and Mississippi, but does cover Louisiana to some degree.

The math I posted earlier hasn't and can't change. The assumptions can though, a big one being that people are hard to kill. They hold onto trees for hours, they come out of newly chopped roof holes wearing backpacks and looking clean, they swim through gasoline, and they endure and survive sub-animal conditions in places like the CC and dome, complaining but alive.

That said, I'm sticking with those numbers, 40-400k.

I'm hearing noises from Biloxi that the count there will top out soon, with current count in the 200 range. If true, I will revise earlier estimates downward, but I don't think this optimism is justified just yet.

Still almost no word from Long Beach, St. Louis Bay et al, Pass Christian, Slidell, Plaqemines Parish, St. Bernard Parish or east Orleans Parish, the areas hardest hit. Ditto Moss, Pascagoula and Gautier, which are outside what I'm calling the black hole, those areas straddling the eye's center track.

Sure, the focus on NO could be blocking those reports out, and then again, maybe there just isn't enough knowlege yet to report on.

I will take this opp to point up the need for anything, even anecdotal reports, from those areas, because the NO media blitz may be divertig our attention from an oncoming blindside.

I hope that's all it is.

I think so. My guess is that this has happened several times in several places and we've only heard about Utah.

Most of the downtown area was dry. Even if the buses had returned to where they sit now, they sit in 4 feet of water max, with the seats 6 feet above. Better ro be in a wet bus than be dead, like so many are. Your response is an excuse.

Well, I know you know this, but a guy like Forbes should FIND OUT the facts before he shoots off his mouth on TV.

This is disgusting!

In this case why would Blanco retaining control over the Louisiana National Guard impede the feds from helping? I guess I'm trying to figure out what Bush's side of the story in all this might be.

Bush's side is that the feds can do ONLY what they are told or asked to do. The feds don't tell the state what to do.

As to why Blanco would not admit Nat'l Guard (under her control) into NOLA, the reason that the officials on-site gave to the Red Cross was that there was a state of civil unrest. Rescuers could be shot by thugs. The governor said publicy that the effort was going fine, but on the ground, the message was "don't go in there."

It's up to the state apparatus first, to asses situation and request appropriate assistance.

"that they made residential areas out of swampland"

That would be true from Boston to Brownsville, also for hundreds of miles each side of the Mississippi. And many other places in the world.

Boston just spent $14B of federal funds building I-93 (the Kerry/Kennedy evacuation highway)100 feet below Boston Bay.

You have a good point there.

The government (i.e. Bush) should have been able to prevent this disaster.........and the government (i.e. Bush) should have been able to snap his fingers and make all the problems go away.

I tend to agree that it is a matter of 'faith' in their government that makes them disregard facts.
