Do you have a link to a source about all this? I'd like to read up on it so I can have this argument properly.

How do I prove that many black churches are responding or black friends of mine who have volunteered with the Red Cross?

Someone else on another thread had mentioned about the difference between natural disaster and terrorist attack.

This possibly might be the only strong explanation for fed. not responding sooner.

And as you said, any action by the President would be criticized.

My concern was not so much with MSM, but with the actual response of the Federal gov't and its obligations to citizens in this situation.

I know that they weren't your comments but it seems you often post others critical comments. If unfair, I apologize.

we need a southerner to head up thie reconstruction effort - I nominate Zell Miller. he will clean out this mess.

but I don't know the legal means by which Bush can essentially "federalize" New Orleans, how do we remove the state and local officials from the food chain?

The President was just in Baton Rouge at a huge black church that was housing people and T. D. Jakes was with him.

The President thanked Jakes for organizing the outreach of churches, and I can almost guarantee those were black churches he was organizing, not white churches.

Stonecipher also wondered whether the fact that Blanco is a Democrat might have slowed the Republican administration's response to the crisis in her state.

"I wonder what Rudy Giuliani could have done in Louisiana? Stonecipher said.

Gee....do you think this will be the excuse American buys into?? Keep trying....

Totals: $ 9,000,000

Estimated Requirements for assistance under the Stafford Act:

Coordination: $0
Technical and advisory assistance: $0
Debris removal: $0
Emergency protective measures: $ 9,000,000
Individuals and Households Program (IHP): $0
Distribution of emergency supplies: $0
Other (specify): $0

Let's put this in perspective.

Total aid askef for: Nine Million Dollars. With an "M", not a "B".

That total requested probably would not even clean up the SuperDome.

It probably would not do for even two weeks worth of graft for the NO metro area.

Prayers for ALL !

The vast majority of the folks who stayed were able bodies and they would have walked a mile or two from where they resides to the SuperDome. They had three days to do before the Hurricane hit. Those who were not able to walk should have called the police and they would have moved them.

Metropolitan New Orleans have 1.5 millions people, around 1.3 to 1.4 million evacuated before the Hurricane because they were smart enough to do so.

Here's a great website to explain the Feds' versus the State's resonsibilities, and also to lay out exemptions to certain things like "posse comitatus."

An absolutely great find, Ellesu. As I began to hear over and over how ferociously Blanco and her cohorts were resisting any Federal presence, I first wondered why you would do this with all of those people at risk and then could not think of any other reason but that they had something immense to hide. LA may be among the worst of the thieves of HS money, but it is far from alone. I hope that their shredders to not have electricity.

"This from the conservatives."

Do fellow conservatives do "this" to other fellow conservatives? After 30+ years of my involvement in the movement, I'm SHOCKED, SHOCKED I tell you.

Next thing ya know, Lowry will be stalking and terrorizing the FEMA director in REAL life and will bring him to complete ruin, in addition to publicly criticizing him, like other conservatives I am aware of have done. Nah, they won't do that to him. They only so attack conservatives who are the lowest on the totem pole.

No. I've spent the last 20 years of my life in the Active Duty and National Guard. I've spent the last 7 years in the Air National Guard. Since 9/11 I have been bouncing back and forth between Federal and State authority depending on what my assigned role is. I am very familiar with what my chain of command is depending on what role I am filling. When a person joins the National Guard, he raises his right hand and swears an oath to the Governor of the state he works for. That is because the Governor is his commander. And the Governor must give the DoD the authority to assume command of his National Guard forces. That is why, to this very minute, all the Guardsmen working in New Orleans full UNDER the authority of state officials including local policemen. That's just the way it is.

We have Medved on at the same time as Hannity. We listen to Medved on the way home. The worst part of Hannity is the last few minutes when he takes calls.

That's pretty much been done. Bush has waived the usual 75-25 split between federal and state funds and agreed to pay 100% of the costs. This takes the locals out of the loop, but I'm sure they haven't figured that out yet.
