New Orleans PD shot contractors - not thugs - on bridge

Police shot and killed at least five people Sunday after gunmen opened fire on a group of contractors traveling across a bridge on their way to make repairs, authorities said.

Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley said police shot at eight people carrying guns, killing five or six.

Fourteen contractors were traveling across the Danziger Bridge under police escort when they came under fire, said John Hall, a spokesman for the Army Corps of Engineers.

They were on their way to launch barges into Lake Pontchartrain to help plug the breech in the 17th Street Canal, Hall said.

None of the contractors was killed, Hall said.

The bridge spans a canal connecting Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River.

No other details were immediately available.

Apparently, the idiot gov of LA hasn't made the necessary declaration to federalize anything (except perhaps the health aspect...but I defer to others who can give more specifics)...apparently, she's afraid that if the Feds have the power, they may make her look stupid or something....she's already achieved that though.

I agree totally with your point. But I've got to add one thing. You skipped referring to the event that initiated what to me was the most hilarious thread ever read on FR. That was John effing Kerry's attempted first pitch for the Red socks.

I forgot about that. A returning soldier from Afghanistan? Iraq? was pre-empted so Kerry could throw into the dirt. One shudders to think of what the situation Louisiana would be if he was President..

I believe you are right about the preempted soldier from Afghanistan. Skerry, though, didn't even make it to the dirt. The ball took a bounce in the grass, if I remember right, and I know the catcher, God bless the chap, couldn't even get the ball contained and it went by him. Right! I understood that from the beginning. You have armed men walking on a bridge shooting at unarmed men. The police were escorting the contractors and returned fire. What is the beef about that?

I am not trying to blame NO's finest, I am passing on info of Police looting that was confirmed by eye witnesses from the Convention Center. Draw your own from that--I have nothing further.
