New Orleans PD shot contractors - not thugs - on bridge

Police shot and killed at least five people Sunday after gunmen opened fire on a group of contractors traveling across a bridge on their way to make repairs, authorities said.

Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley said police shot at eight people carrying guns, killing five or six.

Fourteen contractors were traveling across the Danziger Bridge under police escort when they came under fire, said John Hall, a spokesman for the Army Corps of Engineers.

They were on their way to launch barges into Lake Pontchartrain to help plug the breech in the 17th Street Canal, Hall said.

None of the contractors was killed, Hall said.

The bridge spans a canal connecting Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River.

No other details were immediately available.

But if the NOPD had actually shot and killed CoE contractors, it would have been counterproductive to their 'agenda'. If the original story (actually the 2nd version of the story)had been true, it would have bolstered the case for the feds taking control from the governor. It would have shown the locals to be incompetent and disorganized and incapable of leading this effort.

IMO, just the confusion over this story is enough to make the case for the feds to take control, as I stated further up the thread. Something like this could very well happen if one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing.

You can't believe the forking AP or MSNBC, they have a Bush bashing agenda. You see how they jumped to the wrong conclusions without checking the facts. Not ridiculous to me. These "looters" are just frustrated at being unemployed. Between the police and NG presence, they are unable to perform their job. In addition, the evacuation and police and NG presence has meant that their "backup job" as a drug dealer is unavailable due to lack of the demand side of the equation (and I dare say the supply side is getting sparse, as well).
